Have you looked into Wild Blue for your satellite internet service?  I had researched them and was just about to drop HughesNet for Wild Blue when we got DSL.   I went through a lot of frustration with HughesNet just like you described.  Lousy customer service and tech support.  Yes, believe it or not in rural West Virginia we have DSL.
