The Scott heard ’round the world.

Tonight’s Republican senate win in Massachusetts gives me hope for the future. This race wasn’t about health care, but about the American people saying to the Democrat-controlled federal government: “Stop this giant swing toward socialism.” The second American Revolution has begun.

Hey there. I mean no disrespect, but I think you are seeing something where there is nothing. Brown was a better candidate, it was a very simple race. A senate race in a small US state where the voters chose between Brown and a terribly negligent democrat cannot be read into too much.

Also, you use the word “socialism” so loosely it ceases to have a meaning. A swing towards socialism in most senses has not been observed at all. Furthermore, I’ve been to many socialist nations in my life, and have family in one (Denmark). They make twice as much money as we do (80k per person per year average), they have higher productivity, they have higher employment, they have lower economic inequality, looser gun control laws (my aunt hunts like crazy[she just shot 2 fallow and 1 roe deer]), free access to school if you get the grades, no minimum wage, free access to healthcare, the most free labor markets on earth (least government interference [this is not true of France, but France is not most socialist nations]), they don’t mettle with foreign politics but stay libertarian on their foreign policy stances, Switzerland has no standing army but has everyone trained and given weapons like in the US how we had militias back in the day, they have 5-7 weeks paid vacation per year….

and they are increasingly looking into self reliant living with efficient designs and infrastructure changes — Denmark became 100% oil independent by pushing a plan for 20 years and now they don’t rely on the arabs for oil or energy

I don’t mean to diatribe here, and I am as critical of government as anyone else, but I feel the big G is neither good nor bad, simply what we make it.

To that end, part of self-reliance must be a move towards local government, towards increasing local government power and diminishing federal government power. The success of the “socialist” nations might be due to their size. Things work better, and people are able to better control their own lives, in a smaller scale system or political unit.

    Food for thought.

    Again, no disrespect.

With all due respect to “Stephen”, let me insert that as a somewhat regular poster to both Dave D’s blog and other Backwoods Home website pages, this “Stephen” is not to be confused with “Stephen B”
