The following letter was forwarded to me by Scott Valencia, Chief Operation Officer of Redshed Media Group LLC. and the voice of Bubba DaVinci on the weekly The Backwoods Home Magazine< & Self-Reliance Expozed Radio Show.

Scott writes:

Patricia is a listener to the Backwoods Home Radio show, and a big-time Facebook poster (over 50 posts in the last week of information she finds…a lot is from BHM). She replied to a question that was asked about Jackie [Clay-Atkinson] on a radio show and I offered a free ticket for getting it right….This one comment made the whole thing worth it for me. This was her reply to this weekend.

Bubba,

I wanted to write you and thank you for inviting me and letting me and my friend (Kathryn) into your wonderful show. I cannot tell you how much your generosity means to me. I really can’t. It is very rare that anyone does something so nice for me and to be so gracious to let us both in….. wow, you are a great person. Thank you so much.

I am sorry that I could not write you last night and thank you. When I got home I logged onto FB [Facebook] and was going to write about the show and THEN message you and thank you for your generosity, but before I could do anything, my system crashed. I could not believe it. I finally managed to get back on and leave that message that I was having computer problems. I hope you saw it. I restored my system to the factory settings and have been updating all of the software today. I am just now getting back on. I am embarrassed that it has taken me this long to thank you. I am sorry but it could not be helped.

That being said, I had a blast. An absolute blast!!!!!!!!! Kathryn did too. I saw so many of the people that I have been reading about and talking to on the Internet for many years now. I have been following Dr. Christopher and Backwoods Home at least since 1993. I was going to go to Canada and get my master herbalist degree in ’96. I have been wanting to see what the Tattler lids looked like. I have been wanting a Vita Mixer. I got to see the newest bullet proof vest and try them on. I even got to taste the ‘ova’ eggs and see if I liked them enough to buy them.

I met up with 6 of my friends on FB and saw a few others that I have seen around cyber world. I also got to meet my mentor. I almost cried when I met Jackie Clay. I can not tell you what it means to me to have finally met her in person. I even got a picture of her and I!!!!!!!!!!! Like an idiot I forgot my camera. hahahha But Kathryn had her phone and took one for me. I will cherish that picture forever. I had hoped to meet up with you later on in the event when things calmed down for you but I gave up about 1:00pm as I didn’t think it would calm down for you. Maybe we can catch up sometime over lunch. My treat!

Johnny and Teresa Clepper of Hamilton, TX, shown above with BHM editor Annie Tuttle (l) and Jackie Clay-Atkinson (r), wore their Backwoods Home tee-shirts to the Dallas Self-Reliance Expo and we were happy to let them each pick a free book.

Jackie has already sold out of her books so we are taking orders for it and will mail them to customers. I videotaped a talk on solar given by BHM Energy Editor Jeff Yago. He was very good but I was not a very steady video technician.

Notice our new backdrop in the photo. BHM Staffer Connie Sayler sewed it during the last couple of weeks while she was also helping out with deadline. We’re going to have readers suggest little additions to it, make them up, and mail them to us, and we’ll sew them on to dress it up.

It remains very hot here so you can’t go outside for more than a few minutes or you’ll drop dead of heat stroke. At least you will if you’re from my area of Oregon.

Lenie reports this year’s energy fair is significantly slower than last years. Maybe Jackie Clay’s appearance tomorrow will liven things up.

Annie and I are finishing up the update to the Stupid People book. In between editing sessions I’m playing golf with son Robby. That kid is very good. He finished his finals at OSU yesterday. Next year’s courses are electrical engineering, calculus, physics, and communications. Communications will be the toughest for him. He’s even shyer (shier) than I was at his age.

We just confirmed that Jackie Clay will be visiting the Backwoods Home booth at the MREA Fair in Custer, Wisconsin this weekend. She expects to be there Friday morning through sometime Saturday afternoon.
