Did you see this? This is huge:
In the first race called Tuesday night, conservative insurgent Rand Paul — son of former GOP presidential candidate and Texas Rep. Ron Paul — defeated Secretary of State Trey Grayson in a Republican primary fight for the seat held by retiring GOP Sen. Jim Bunning.
This means the Tea Party Movement is taking hold. It’s not just socialist-leaning Democrats who are not safe, but it’s politics-as-usual Republicans too. This must have the entrenched Republican/Democrat establishment scared as hell. Here’s a young face who wants to restore limited government and the U.S. Constitution. He’s running as a Republican but he’s a Libertarian.
This is another huge advancement for the peaceful revolution that is underway: a return to the fundamental values upon which this country was founded. His father paved the way, but I’ll sure settle for a young pup who understands what is at stake for his generation.

I’ve said time and again that the mainstream media is heavily biased in favor of liberals, or as they like to be called now, progressives. The media pulls off their bias in all sorts of clever ways. Here’s a link to a blog post that Annie sent me that demonstrates the bias of CNN.

The bill is called AB 390, and it would make it legal in California for an individual to possess one ounce of marijuana. It will be on the California ballot Nov. 2. If Republicans are smart, they’ll be on the “yes” side of this bill. Most Tea Partiers will be, I expect, just as most Libertarians like me will be. This is a big opportunity for Republicans to show that they can become more responsive to the will of the people.
This is one of those issues that will help redefine who the Republican Party is. If they want to take back Congress and help restore freedom in America, they’ve got to get on the right side of issues like this. If they don’t, then the Tea Partiers will form third parties and the Republicans will go the way of the Whigs. After all, part of this bill is about freedom: I can take care of what I ingest into my own body without Government telling me what to do. I do it with alcohol, and I can do it with grass.
The bill stipulates people must be 21 years or older “to possess, cultivate, or transport marijuana for personal use.” You could not use the drug in public or within the presence of minors, and you would not be allowed to possess it on school grounds.
Money may help Republicans get behind this bill. It stipulates that the marijuana would be taxed $50 per ounce sold to help reduce California’s $20 billion deficit.

We may be on deadline for the next issue, but we’re also tackling other projects. One especially important task we’ve been working on is publishing the upcoming book, Hardyville, by Claire Wolfe.
Claire has written for BHM’s print issue off and on since 2001 (Issue No. 70). She has been a regular columnist since Issue No. 106. Her Hardyville series began online at her own blog (now discontinued) years before she began writing for BHM, and the series was renewed at the Backwoods Home Magazine website on Oct. 15, 2003.
This is a timeless collection of stories about freedom in a small town. We thought we’d have it published by now, but Annie’s illness, production of our two big anthologies 15 and 16, and now deadline for the next issue have all conspired to delay things.
But our Rhoda Denning has finished proofing Claire’s manuscript for typos and such, and we should get it to the printer by the end of March.
Claire, by the way, began a new blog Jan. 20, 2010 on the BHM website.

I find this forum discussion fascinating. It’s about Joe Stack crashing his small plane the other day into a building housing IRS employees. The comments are all over the place by people of varying political and philosophical persuasions. I’ve never been to this site before but I think this particular discussion offers a window into the general trend of thought in America today.

Here’s a very good podcast on why you should carry a concealed weapon, even at home, by Jack Spirko. Women will find it particularly informative.
The podcaster is Jack Spirko. He discusses all manner of subjects day after day in a clear, straightforward way. I find myself listening to his Survival Podcast more and more.
This is what’s so great about the Internet, and why it is so important for the future of freedom. It brings smart guys like Spirko into public view so they can discuss good ideas engagingly. The Internet tends to multiply people like him and magazines like BHM into the freedom revolution that is now taking hold in America. We are essentially another part of the whole “tea party” phenomenon that is growing a freedom movement from the bottom up.
Annie, by the way, is doing great.

Tonight’s Republican senate win in Massachusetts gives me hope for the future. This race wasn’t about health care, but about the American people saying to the Democrat-controlled federal government: “Stop this giant swing toward socialism.” The second American Revolution has begun.

Danny, a subscriber now serving in Iraq, sent me this photo. He’s holding a copy of our book, The Coming American Dictatorship, as he stands in front of Iraq’s former dictator. How ironic!

CNN today carried a story titled, Palin slams ‘sexist’ Newsweek cover. The Newsweek cover shows how the mainstream media subtly distorts the debate about Sarah Palin by simply choosing a photo that emphasizes her sexy look. It’s a subtlety that Newsweek and CNN have mastered over the years. To distort truth or meaning, you don’t have to outright lie; you merely have to shift emphasis of a headline, a photo, or a few sentences.
Like Sarah Palin, I am not surprised. I’ve written about the prejudice of the mainstream media against conservatives and Libertarians for many years. This is just the latest example. Over the years CNN itself has been very prejudiced against conservatives and Libertarians, and very clever and subtle with how they display their prejudices.
But the world is catching on. There is a reason why news organizations are losing revenue, laying off their reporters at a record pace, and heading for the ash bin of history. Newsweek’s cover is part of that reason.

The White House continues to attack Fox News. How come they don’t go after MSNBC which features overtly biased guys like Keith Olberman and Chris Matthews? They are twice as pro-Democrat as Fox is pro-Republican. The answer: MSNBC is pro-Obama!
My editorial in Issue No. 119 is worth another read. The so-called “news media” has been biased “to the political left” for decades, and Fox News is merely “the political right” getting into the act. The public’s backlash against biased reporting, coupled with the availability of internet reporting, has helped lead to the destruction of the print media in this country, and someday soon it will lead the destruction of biased TV reporting, starting with CNN.
I understand Fox News is pro-conservative, but I also understand that CNN is pro-liberal. The difference is that CNN and the White House try to assert that CNN is unbiased. This is untrue and everyone knows it. There can’t help but be a backlash against the White House and Obama for this type of attack.
