The golf bug — it’s hard to shake
Sunday, March 2nd, 2008I almost gave up golf. Injuries and not enough time were the major reasons. I haven’t played for months. But my middle son, Robby, is on the high school golf team, which just started practicing two weeks ago, and I got the bug again just watching them practice. This must be some sort of mental disorder — a game that’s nearly impossible to master but you go out again and again, frustrating yourself over and over.
The coach asked me if I would drive the JV team to its six upcoming tournaments. Sure, I said, then learned that I’d get to play the courses with the coaches ahead of the team. Wow! The second tournament is at Bandon Dunes, a pro-type course 70 miles north of here that I only dreamed of playing. You have to walk it, but I’ll push my bum left knee to the limit to make it. What the heck! It’s for the team!
