You bring up a good point. Government will use these “emergencies,” such as the potential for a swine flu outbreak, to enact more laws that take away our freedoms. I understand Massachusetts pols are considering a law that would allow sudden searches of people’s homes and businesses, confiscation and destruction of private property, and other serious infringements on the rights of citizens in the event a “health emergency” is declared. The problem is that health threats come and go, but oppressive laws that allow government agents to invade our homes because some bureaucrat decides it’s an emergency tend to stay around. We must always be vigilant against government assistance in helping solve society’s potential threats, because usually the government solution does nothing against the problem but always ends up strengthening the power of govenment over our personal lives.

Dave,

I think we've solved the mystery of the Swine Flu. It's the reason to implement the NAIS system discussed on pages 31 - 37 of the May/June 2009 issue of The Backwoods Home Magazine!

This is definitely the time to put our bureaucrats on notice! We will not tolerate any further infringments on our liberty!
