Here’s some not very cheery economic news I just read at money.CNN.com:
“. . . More than half of the $9 trillion in debt that Uncle Sam is expected to build up over the next decade will be interest.
More than half. In fact, $4.8 trillion.
If that’s hard to grasp, here’s another way to look at why that’s a problem.
In 2015 alone, the estimated interest due – $533 billion – is equal to a third of the federal income taxes expected to be paid that year . . .”
I wonder if emigration from America to more financially stable countries is going to increase over the next several years? China might be a good place to go. Just kidding! I think Americans will stay put, but we are going to be in for one hell of a financial awakening in a few years.

I agree with you whole heartedly. We are definately in for hard times. I believe the older you get the harder it will be. What are the 70 and 80 year old people on Social Security to do? What do you think of this gold buying business? I dont have $1100 for a few gold coins. Do you? Have a great day enjoying what God has given you! Cindy Hills

Have you considered running a story, on gun safes and ammunition storage (both from a crime prevention and safety standpoint?) Storing food and firearms “deep” poses some challenges for me and I’d assume others who want to do so on a budget. (particularly firearms and ammunition which shouldn’t be just packed into any-old-place.)
Just a thought.

The Salvation Army in a small town about 50 miles south of Dallas, Texas has enrolled 500 – yes – 500 children in the Angel Tree Program. This is the town where I was born. The guidelines were very stringent this year. Knowing the community as I do, I doubt very seriously that all the children will be adopted for Christmas. This is another confirmation of the times we live in and all the more reason for us all to get on board with learning all we can from Backwoods Home! I can’t say it enough – thanks Dave and all the team for what you do!

Matt: I’ll suggest to Mas Ayoob that he do an article on this. As I write this I’m sitting to the right of perhaps 10,000 rounds of .308 and .30 06 boxed up as they came from the manufacturer. The pile is about waist-high. On my right is my gun case with a dozen assorted rifles and pistols. Behind me in a series of bookcases are lots of rounds of .45, .38. 357, .22, all sorts of parts for various guns, all strewn in with hundreds of books. Everything is fairly well organized, but I’ve taken no special precautions to store any of this. Mas probably has some good advice to give.

As important as the ammo is, dont forget the training. In a lifetime of deer hunting and killing teo legged vermin you are unlikely to need 10 grand worth of ammo. Dont forget to learn what you are doing with the rifle (not to imply that you dont, just something for all to keep in mind). The Appleseed program is an excellent way to learn how to shoot a rifle and cost next to nothing at http://www.rwva.org
I think an excellent article would be on an Appleseed shoot (if I have missed this already my apologies), it is a great way for young and old to learn about their heritage and learn about marksmanship all at once.

We did run an Appleseed article a few issues back. My 10 grand of ammo is an investment that has more than doubled in value since I bought it.
