Goat with mastitis

We are far from a vet and have a goat that has developed mastitis. She has triplets and we don’t want to lose her. Other than warm compresses, milking her out, and antibiotics is there anything else we should be doing?

Milk her out several times a day to flush the “bad” milk out of her udder quicker. Are you giving her intramuscular or subcutaneous injections? This should do the job in a few days with good husbandry on your part. It’s nice to hear from someone from our old New Mexico stomping grounds. We lived near Gladstone, east of you, for several years. — Jackie

Canning chicken

I raw packed chicken and used the right time and pressure. Instructions were that the chicken would make its own liquid, which it did. The jars sealed well, but there is only about a half jar of liquid in each jar and it has jelled. Is it Ok to eat?

Yes. This is normal for raw packed meat. The gel will melt as you heat the meat. — Jackie
