This is just for you Buck ;D
This site is kind of interesting. It rates locations on how easy it is to get around on foot -- or live without a car.

I managed to squeeze 22 out of 100. That's what I get for living next to wheat fields at the edge of town. ;) Even the stores they show the distance to were somewhat dubious at best. The nearest "clothing store" is a hole-in-a-wall that sells those crappy cotton scrubs they wear in hospitals and medical offices. What percentage of the population goes clothes shopping there.... ???

Methinks Google needs to update thier info as I got a big fat Zero. ??? Or maybe they don't really like to walk. Myself, I consider anything under 3 miles one way to be easy walking distance. I can throw a rock from my front porch to the nearest church. On the other side of the church is a Used (but fashionable) Clothing store. An automotive repair shop is .1 mile (downhill). An extension of the County Library is .2 mile away. A beer store and auto parts supply are .25 mile away. A beauty salon at .3 mile. A liquor store at .45 mile. McDonalds, Sonic, Subway, a bank and gas station at 1 mile and that's where this small town 'starts'. For BBQ, I have to walk another .25 mile. >:(
I guess if things get really bad and my truck breaks down and my bike has a flat, I'll just coast the truck down to the shop and walk to the edge of town for
lunch. On the way home, I'll get a haircut, pick up a 6 pack, stop by the library and get a book, then go sit beside a pond in a pasture and watch the cows watching me.

According to them My address doesn't exist. I guess that makes it a good retreat.

LOL, I got a 9. ;D And that's with them placing my address in the wrong area. about six miles closer to town than it actually is. They listed me as "car-dependent", as though it were a bad thing. I guess now the liberals are making country living a diseased, eco-unfriendly way of life; all the better to stamp out the distressingly independent sort of folks. ::)

Yep me too. 0-100. That's pretty accurate, even the Amish say we are too far from town (too far for horses and carriages even)

0 out of 100 — Car-Dependent for me as well.
I also don't think that Kangaroo Express at 2.03 miles qualifies as a grocery store :)
BTW, the distances are off. That gas station is 3 miles away from us.
0 here and some of the places they listed I never heard of.

* I got a 23 but I think this is done by non walkers as my DD, grand-daughters, and I walk all around this area. *The closest bus-stop is supposedly half a mile away though I think it's only about 1\3 of a mile. *DD and I have even walked up to the local park and ride, that's at least 3.5 miles to my way of thinking. *The closest place on their list was a Starbuck's at 3.41 miles so my guess is the park and ride is at least 4 miles from here.
DD said we've never actually walked all the way to the Park & Ride but I know we've walked at least half way. On January 1 the bus was no longer able to stop at about 3 or 4 stops going and coming as the suburb the route goes through at one point decided it didn't want to pay the quarter percent or so tax to have bus service. That also means that the vans for the disabled are no longer allowed to pick up or drop off passengers. There was a young black man in a wheel chair that took the bus to church every Sunday morning and was able to get off at he end of the church drive where it met the access road for the freeway. After that he had to go from the park & ride to church, only about 1/4 mile but not a safe ride for him. I haven't seen him the last few times I've ridden the bus to church. Before we got DD's car running we had to get off the bus and walk about 4 blocks to get to the credit union and believe me the people living in that suburb don't look for pedestrians!

Every Place is walking distance, if you have the time.
Current home: a generous and optimistic 68
future home: "0"
Apparently no consideration is made for crime levels, traffic density or pedestrian infrastructure.
Hmm, it rated where I'm living in Hawaii as a 18. I rather disagree with that, Oahu's public transport is quite impressive and, well, it is an island. You never have to walk to far! Granted the 18 does apply for home back in Oregon.
