Wow! It seems like bartering opportunies are just falling in my lap lately!!!

It may be because folks know about my little farm store where I sell "farm fresh eggs from happy chickens," goat milk soap, jellies, lap and baby quilts and now dried herbs...and so they call or come by with offers...

So far in the past couple of days I've traded a couple of dozen eggs for a big "mess" of fresh corn (wow, it was good!!!!).

Then $29, a dozen eggs and a bar of goat milk soap for a big bag of freshly picked green beans AND a Waring food dehydrator (with a $99 price tag still on it!!!) I have fresh sage drying in the dehydrator now and will sell dried herbs to recoup the $29.

Two dozen eggs for about 15 loaves and bags of bread and hamburger buns for the chickens and goats. (and two loaves were fresh so WE ate them!!!)

In the past I've traded fresh tomatoes for getting my hair trimmed, etc. I also did the publicity for a motorcycle run and traded that for about three months of hair cuts!

What have YOU bartered lately?

There should NOT be a sad smiley on my thread with my question of "what have you bartered lately." how do I turn those things off

The three questions marks put it there. Like this ??? - Oliver

Try clicking the modify button in the upper right corner and then back space once and remove the smiley and pick another if you want.

Some symbols will cause a smiley: three question marks, I think for the frowney one. Combinations of other characters will bring on others, such as a colon and a ")" will give you this: :)

You can use "modify" to remove one of the characters or put spaces between them to prevent an unwanted smiley!

I usually use "preview" before I hit post to catch some of my more creative spelling effots and unwanted smileys!

IMO barter is the only real "money" ever invented. This paper
crap we use today is something someone else controls so I barter
every chance I get. ;)

If one could take the arrogance and pride out of bartering , this country could survive on bartering alone.

I always had the idea that when I trade work for whatever, we feel like we are getting away with somthing..so people are more willing to barter. The only trouble I see with getting rid of money, is that many people I worked for, have nothing I want. For Example, when I worked in NYC for a man in TV, he didn't have anything other than friendship that would realy be of same value.

I'm saying that those who can afford what I do, have only one thing I want...Greenbacks or Gold. Localy it's diffrant, but I don't like to do what I do...localy.

The problem with me and bartering is that I usually end up on the short end of the stick. I guess I'm too nice, or a push over. ;D

Great job Suzy! I love bartering. In the past 2 weeks I managed to swap some 10 year old salmon fishing rods for a nice rabbit hutch and more than enough lumber and wire fencing to build another one. I also swapped the neighbor a bbq grill I dont use anymore for an 8x16 ft domed shelter. FINALLY I can get some of my garage back! YAY! This thing will hold my Loboy, tiller, trailer, cultivator, and all the bigger stuff I have stored in half of my garage. Now I can fill it back up with more stuff lol.

Barters are like any bargain, both parties should be happy as clams with the agreement. Usually each party doesn’t see the value in what they are trading but usually in some way covet what they are getting.

Some times barters are odd as well. My friend down in Redrock watches our place for us and will perform chores like nailing back down any loosened corrugated roofing or patching up any woodpecker holes in the siding and I in return do internet stuff for him. He vehemently declares that they will “never” have a computer or be on line – Even though he is a retired IBM programmer. He has several instances where he needs information gathered, odd or hard to find parts for his aging fleet of vehicles, art work created and things of that nature. We both are happy (see ‘clams’ above) and that is all it takes. We also pick up stuff from “The City” that they need and bring it down when we come or ship it to them. I do in guilt bring him a 30 pack every once in a while…

I definitely plan to expand our bartering efforts as far as I can, both to avoid the revenuers and to save money out of pocket. Lindawoman is a beautician, computer guru of sorts, competent crafts person in several mediums; I am qualified in furniture making, woodturning, carpentry and reasonably qualified in many construction trades, competent graphic artist and photographer and videographer. Our small community is not all that fertile for prospects, but the nearest small town is fraught with opportunity for some of my talents.

well, after the collapse of the soviet Union that is how most Russians survived, even companies. for instance, one factory making knitting yarns, paid the workers in yarn, they in turn bartered it for whatever. Of course this would not work in this country, we do not seem to produce anything anymore.

I saw on the news a Dentist was bartering. He bartered dental work for food, gold and even a blue healer pup.I had to go to the dentist the next day and took along some jewelry I make and bartered 30.00 off of my bill.Don't think I could make enough for the whole bill unless she wanted to look like Mr. T . LOL With the economy the way it is we may see more of this, maybe if our country bartered with other countries our economy would be in better shape.

Heck, I've bartered w/my dentist..but he's a great friend also.

Cutting Stone is a trade you charge for. So it's not like I can do stone work for a pair of socks..but 50 pair of socks, I could..and that's somthing I can keep and trade for somthing elts.

I was reminded today that sometimes batering comes at different times. For example, a guy I had given something to a few weeks ago came by with about a gallon of blueberries to give me today.

I gave an awful old recliner to a woman (who really really appreciated it) just because I wanted it hauled off my carport, and now she has given me some soap molds...

A really older woman (who I thought must be ANCIENT but who spent her last visit telling me the problems she is having tending to her MOTHER) regularly brings me egg cartons that she collects from family and friends because she knows with all my CHICKENS I ALWAYS need egg cartons, and most of the time she just needs a dozen eggs and somebody to LISTEN to her for about 10 minutes.

None of these gifts match in equality but all have produced nice feelings and friendships.

Long time no talk to Suzy! ;)

Big Chris just bartered some repair work on his car and a car trailor for our old dog kennel. I haven't got to see the trailor yet, but I think we might come out ahead on this deal. LOL!

How is your hubby doin'? We always keep you guys in our prayers.
