Wow. And we think we have bad air. I think they are aware of the polution they produce but just too gready to deal with it on a long term basis. Read the story if you would. The Olympics are going to be interesting this year.

The communists have always been the masters of illusion and deception! Maybe one good thing about this is when the Chinese people themselves see how much better the air is during the games, they'll start to demand cleaner air and water for themselves, not just the visitors.

This could be an opportunity for the United States also. The Chinese power almost all their factories and power plants with coal, and not a single penny is spent on any pollution controls like sulfur scrubbers. America has a lot of experience in coal power pollution controls, so this is something we could market to them!

Do you think they would speak up?

They won't say anything. They are not permitted too. The government has no concerns for clean air, water or any other issue to clean up their act. Right now it is about money. Just imagine what will happen if they can't clean up the air.

China is an old nation that is being led to ruin
by the communist gov't. Someday the people
will rise up I just hope that day is soon.

Having China in the same planet now is like
having a festering wound that won't heal. :'(

Fuel Tech has signed some recent deals there just as you suggest could be an opportunity for some US companies.

On the news the other day they were saying that china is now forcing factories to close till after the games. (knew that was the plan) but what was new was I heard that some factories are staying open because workers can’t afford to go so long without pay, and companies can’t afford to not be in production. So the government said that owners that stay open illegally will be charged with corruption and may be executed.

I guess anything to make themselves look better for the world.

I still think it is a joke that the games are there

I'm doubtful that clean air is going to be a motivator for the average Chinese citizen. I suspect the desire for a better life and a bit of control over their government is going to be a bigger motivator.

For that matter, when was the last time the average US citizen felt their government was responsive to them? I know that I feel completely ignored by my government. They are not accountable to the public.
