Beijing has asked hotels and restaurants in the city to take dog meat off the menu for the duration of next month's Olympics and September's Paralympics.

Dog is eaten not only by the large Korean community in China's capital but is also popular in Yunnan and Guizhou restaurants.

I've had dog twice, not bad; but it sure makes you look at your pets funny.

Probably trying to cater to western ways so as not to offend their guests.

It's funny how we look at dogs compaired to the rest of the world. Just the other day a lady at work was talking about everything she went through to get her dog buried. I ate dog back many years ago and didn't know what it was till I was almost finished with my meal.

I can only look at dog's as pets, the thought of eating them is purely disgusting to me.

Isn't is amazing what people will spend? Not just on burial, but on vet care and stuff.......

I would never consider my pets a meal ticket, nor would I spend the $$ on chemo or contacts for them, but in other parts of the world, what we consider pets, they consider a main course......

On the other hand, there are still parts of the world where women are traded for cattle and goats........

No animal gets a free ride here as a pet. You eat, you work in some way...give'n love is not a job. HOw many cattle could I get for my wife? (Kidding)

Pet stuff is a 14 BILLION DOLLAR business.

Once looked at a stone job were a fellow,he was 25 at the time, made $20 Proffit on just each Medical Screw he sold. Every day His company packed a UPS truck. Know how many screws that is?

My pets bring me a lot of enjoyment. *It's a quality of life improvement, in my opinion. *Especially on the bad days.
The cat is a mouser as well.
The dogs are great burglar alarms and deterents too.

Our pet's would never be considered a meal ticket, and yes, we have spent a fortune on them, no chemo or contacts ;D, but just for their general health.

They add so much to our lives, I can't think of what it would be like without them.

They are our companions, and they work.
I never have to worry about the family or homestead while gone and the wife and little one can walk in the woods with much safety( of course the FAL she is carrying helps ;D). Ours are hybrids Wolf/Husky.

DH was in Korea, I went to see him. We had left the main road and were on a back road. I saw a dog tied outside of a small market. I commented on someone tieing their pet there. He said, quietly, Babe, that's not a pet it's someones dinner.

We have 4 farm dogs who help keep us safe however I still have kids at home and if TSHTF we could get by with only 2 or 3 guard dogs.

Dear Forum Members,

To my way of thinking, if you are so hard-up that you have to eat a pet, you haven't practiced preparedness enough.

Real hard-core survivalists don't let themselves get caught up in "life-boat dilemmas" but instead make more life-boats.

To the Group and especially the Unbound one,

I do apologize for failing to add smiley faces... :P :-* ;D
I was joking about my 4 yard dogs, a little on the warpped side of a joke.

Dear EarthMother,

Howdy, EarthMother! No need to apologize. I didn't think you were serious about that.

Not to condemn you for that, "When in Rome, etc." *but I would think that there are far too many homestead uses for a dog to even think of eating them.

Not only can they hunt or guard sheep and other livestock, but they have a sense of smell over 100,000 times more sensitive than humans. *Even the tiniest yappin' tea-cup dog can make an excellent burglar alarm that scares off burglars as readily as pit-bulls. *

And like many wild animals, dogs have a sense about them when natural disasters are impending. *Not without reason are they called "Man's Best Friend."
