I remember some years ago on CNN there was a guy boasting about his massive storage of food and water in his basement. He gave them a tour and showed his generator and his medical stash.
For all the people who didn't prepare in case SHTF, wouldn't this be a beacon for them to break in and steal your stuff?
I wouldn't want to advertise my SHTF stash at all. Would you?

yuo just did according to CNN last night.
They were saying how much you can find on line, even see who went to what sights on line. *So any person here who says "I've got lots of beans".... is a target for anyone who can use google to get that sort of info. *They were even able to get personal info with just a Google search. I found out what a friend paid for his business with google. so it can't be to hard to find out who's who here.
and with Google Earth or other space tec, the world can see what your doing, or growing.

I have some string beans that I canned without a pressure cooker in 1982. Thieves are welcome to them. ;D

It's my understanding that 1982 was a very good year for string beans. The fermentation process should be complete by now! Can you say PARTAY? 8)
Sounds like a totally stupid idea. It's like begging to be killed and your stuff stolen.

I have 3 pints of tomatoes from 05, now does anyone have a jalapeno or an old chicken? There you go we have created SHTF gumbo. Oh, I almost forgot... we will also need someone with an onion and a clove of garlic wouldn't hurt. My opinion is "if it don't contain onions nor garlic, it must be dessert."

Katrina - of course, we've strayed from your original thought - but of course it makes no sense to advertize your stock of food and such. About as much sense as to show people the secret room, the tunnel under the barn or the combination to the safe.
However people that can their own food are often so proud (and with good reason) of the quantity and beauty of their work that they do show it - but hopefully, to no one who would harm them in a bad situation. Anyone who has sweated over a pressure canner on a hot summer day would understand the urge to say "Ta DA!" when it's done! ;)
