Yes, I've seen Bicycle ridership in China...but... China wants to move
AWAY from bikes to cars to copy America! :o :o
Not only does China want our money they also want our unsustainable
"American Way of Life" too. Go figure.......... ::) ::) ::)

the first things they want when they get out of the gutter, is a car and red meat. stop working your legs off to give your ass a ride, and stopp eating rice.

If they would just get all those bikes off the roads, they wouldn't have any congestion. ;D
Can't imagine people here in the seattle ares trying to ride a bike, 20-60 miles one way, for a commute. I'll bet they would still have traffic accidents every day. We have accidents when it is raining and when the sky is clear (you can see the mountains). The best traffic is on clowdy days, the only thing to focus on is the car in front of you.
Biking to work is a good idea, if you live close enough to do it.
How ever, for the rest of us, it is just not doable.
I do believe more people could be car pooling, but they don't. Hard to loose that freedom of having the option to just take off if you want.

It's hard to change or progress when everybody says/thinks "I can't".

Are you kidding. It is not easy to get to live in Denmark, even if you are married to a Dane.

Yeph, looks like socialism is hard at work. Shouldn't they all be wearing little red hankies around their chicken ass little necks?

Buck, you ride the bike. Give me a good motorcycle any day. I don't have one yet but I am in the market with gas prices the way they are. It's been 20yrs since I had a bike (motorcycle not peddle) but the license is still good 61 ain't too old.

I guess I've lived in the country a long time all I could think when I say that was cattle heading for the barn.. ;D
But if it works for them fine, just don't think a 35 mile round trip on a bike to buy feed and groceries is gonna work for us..
Pearls before swine.......... ::)

please, why so nasty??
If you live just a few miles from your work and gas prices are 8 bucks a gallon, and parking really costs, why not ride a bike, when it is not raining. Imagine all those bikes were cars. Country bumpkin that I am, I refused to drive in a city when we lived in Europe, so congested and impossible to find a parking spot and then it was expensive. In Holland you see lots of bikes too. It is just common sense and has nothing to do with socialism. My daughter has a car but she usually rides a bike. She uses the car for longer distances and hauling things. No Dane would expect you to haul feed sacks on a bike for 35 miles. Just common sense that you need a pick up truck.

but if one is living on a small farm in po-dunk... you can't ride a bike to work, and parking don't cost that much..pluss, you'll see gas go down after today.

For short light trips, saving on fuel and parking costs in major metro areas (bike and ped friendly ones that is), biking can't be beat.
For hauling stuff, long trips, etc. Check out Rideshare on Craigslist...or get with a neighbor or two to split the cost of fuel (or barter the use of their truck for an item/service of some value that you have.
It won't break our dependence on foreign oil (nothing short of everyone buying locally and eliminating all unncessary travel will accomplish that), but it will save the average Joe some serious coin over the long haul.

I don't know about anybody else but sharing trips to town is something we around here have done for a long time. The neighbors check to see if we need anything when they go and we do the same with them.. Not anything new for us..

One thing about these countries, is they all live somewhat close to where they work. Like in Germany, you won't find any homes in the country, or not very many, cluttering up the country side. Even the farmers live in town. Here, the gov forces companies to set up industrial parks and dealer ship strips in certain areas, and everyone has to drive to them. The small mom and pop shops are even only allowed in certain areas. So, maybe a 20 mile + one way trip on a bike is ok for Buck, but not me. Car pooling is a much better option for distance travel.
I'm still waiting to see if those Air powered cars are coming. I'd buy one of those.
One thing about Germany, with all the walking and bike riding, all the women sure stay in shape. Hey! Thats an idea, let pass a law saying American women have to ride bike and walk!! Can you just imagine all those hot momas walking around??
Just kidding ladies. Your all hot just the way you are. ;D
