I was reading someones post/story about living remote, and got to thinking, if you had a snowmobile in a remote location, could you use electricity to power it, so you wouldn't have to worry about fuel. I did a search and came up with this interesting story.

That was a cool story, though I doubt I will make a conversion on my machine.

The one thing I found that was funny however was the noise. As he said, he found the track noise to be higher then he thought. This was exactly the case with my 4 stroke Yamaha. Its so quiet that Yamie had to redo their idler wheels and add a clutch kit to stop some springs from vibrating in the driven clutches. The engine is just so quiet that you could hear this stuff as you rode.

I am not so sure that electric sleds will ever be the rage, but after owning a four stroke snowmobile, I will never go back to a 2 stroke. The fuel economy went from 12 mpg with a 600 cc 2 stroke, to 23 mpg with my new 4 stroke, and it goes faster (97mph versus 107mph and red lines higher to boot (9600 rpm versus 10,200 rpm)

I thought about hooking up my lawn mower to the front of the thing. My wife is always complaining that a snowmobile is useless since you can only use it 4 months out of the year. If I could mow my lawn with it though, that would give it some summer life.

I know it would be the biggest mower in town. My garden tractor I have now only has 18.5 hp, do you think a 120 hp machine that does over 100 might be a bit too much? ;D ;D

Road or otherwise, I haven't figured out a good way to cool this thing. Its liquid cooled of course so that requires snow.
