Originally I said our place is the "Nut and Mutt" farm. I should have stuck with that, it fits perfectly, and it is not I who is the Nut and has the Mutts.
we decided on "Waldhof" instead. The little farm surrounded by woods.

Around here there are really two types of people...natives and those from away. The easiest way to tell who is who is just look for a sign. The ones with cutsie names like "Morning Meadow Farm", "Sunshine Acres" and "Strawberry Patch Farm" are a dead giveaway.

Myself, I like the old style of farm naming...whatever the family's name that lived their. On my farm I have the Hamlin Place, the Davis Place, The Cates Place...these are all just fields now, but at one time they were real life working farms and homesteads.

I never met these people, yet I know 200 years later who planted the apple trees here, who put up the rock walls and who build the old house foundations. Yep, the Hamlin family, The Davis family and the Cates family. Now I can go back in the county records and see who these people where, who they married and so on and so forth. To me it seems better to name a farm like this, but that was back when people actually put roots down, and intended for them to stay down, not like the drifting families that occur to day far to frequently.

The moment you are born you are given a name, and its on your headstone long after you die, so in between you minds well associate with a good reputation. Its the same with a farm name, farm and homestead like you mean it.

To answer your question though, for my place, its the Johnson Farm. You can be on the other side of the county and people will give you directions here. That's the way it should be.

Ive been thinking about giving my little one acre place a name since before i officially signed for it. One day when i live there Im going to raise chickens. Maybe a goat or two and have a vegetable garden.

Since the place is only one acre and small to many I think Im gonna name it "El Chiquito Ranch" (chiquito means small pronounced chee-kee-toe). I think its cute and suits it well.

If I ever get some property I'm going to call it the 3R Farm. Remington's, Rottweilers and Rattlesnakes.

Think I'll have many uninvited visitors? ;D

When I first started getting my stuff together up here I had 2 wind generators up and some solar panels..

I broke the bottle on the hull and named it.. "Windorsun Estate"..

As time went by, wind wasn't a good option for me so I took the wind generators down. I still justify the "wind" part of it because of all of the hot air that gets thrown around here at times from people and I've been known to pass a little myself.. ;D

We named our place Pine Tree Farm. Not because we raise pines for we do not. There was this wonderful white pine among the oaks and maples and poplars that stood grandly with these mighty oaks.It was a sprout when the great Hinckley fire burned this and many miles of land. It killed about 400 people...settlers all.

One night there was a terrific storm and lightning and it struck our mighty pine. The land rumbled as it began to fall taking poplars down. When the storm was over, we went in the woods to see it. The tree was rotten through and many critters and bugs, birds lived there and continue to do so.

We miss our white pine but think about the sprouts that will grow now!

"The Roses Song Garden". My roses sing to me on an early morning. Their scent drifts through air and teases my nose.. They require little and give a lot in return.

The 20 acres we live on now is called the " No Piney Woody Place" the name came right after firestorm of 91 around Spokane Wa. The 20 up in the mountains we will retire to is yet un-named. May I will start a contest here and get some from you-all.

I haven't figured out a name for mine yet. They just call it the Stockton place. We don't have a sign or anything.
My brother in law and father-in-law went in together (they live out of state from me) and call their farms Hostetler Farms, rather than one name for each. They even got hats made (probably got a deal on them).
I have no hats, no signs, and no real name for the place yet. It might stay the Stockton Place forever unless I can figure out a name that I'm satisfied with.

If I were going for accuracy I should rename my place Prickly Acres or the Rock Garden...
Better yet, given the amount of 'fun' I've had building the cabin, its should simply be Oops!

"Little Tara Farm".

We are Southerners who have moved to the Midwest. We plan on growing organic heirloom starts and vegetables and flowers, for sale, and eventually to have chickens and a couple of Dexter cows to be totally sustainable... This place is only 60 acres, which is not even a farm or ranch by local standards! It used to be the local dairy 'way back when; you can still see where the creamery machinery was set up in the garage and basement, and the old refrigerator is still down there. There are three huge gardens to the side and rear of the house, a corral with two pole barns directly behind the house, shop, and garage, and 53 acres of fenced pasture behind the corral.

"Little Tara" because I am a Scarlett O'Hara fan; the first thing you see when you walk into our front room with the bay window is a huge 2 ft by 3 ft portrait of Scarlett at Ashley Wilkes' birthday party, in that stunning red dress with her trademark single eyebrow raised. It is a memorable title as well, for advertising and other purposes... my house will be the sales office frontispiece for the business.

Since most of our neighbors are ranchers, not farmers, but their wives love to grow their own vegies and flowers (and it is 40 miles to the nearest garden center, which is woefully understocked), and few people have their own chickens or milch cows, we have been talking to the neighbors about forming a barter store, trading breads and baked goods and vegetables and beef (and even local hunting wildkill) and milk, eggs, chicken meat, cream and cheese... if everyone puts in what they have and do best, we won't have to travel for what we need, and we can all be interdependent. Everyone is pretty enthused so far...

Grin. Like I said, Scarlett is my heroine... when bad times come, the workers and innovators will survive.
