The Supreme Court ruled Thursday that Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting, the justices' first major pronouncement on gun rights in U.S. history.

The court's 5-4 ruling struck down the District of Columbia's 32-year-old ban on handguns as incompatible with gun rights under the Second Amendment. The decision went further than even the Bush administration wanted, but probably leaves most firearms laws intact.

I almost threw a party when I heard but, I was at work. :'(
Now is not the time to relax and feel comfortable. There are a lot of folks upset about this and they call themselves our public servants. Actually, they used to call themselves that; I think Leaders is the new way they refer to themselves. >:(

Don't worry; we won't. ;D

The NRA was just WAITING to fill out the date on lawsuits that will challenge unconstitutional gun bans in liberal cesspool strongholds like San Francisco, New York, Chicago, etc. And yes, the liberal politicians are just about to vapor-lock over the SCOTUS' decision.

I hope they all do it TODAY. ;D

It's excellent that we still have some of our gun rights. So many misbegots have tried to surrender so many of our rights over the years.

Duh! ....should have been a 9-0 decision. ::)

The wave has already started in SanFran:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080628/ap_on_re_us/gun_ban_reaction

Mayor Gavin Newsom said the city will "vigorously fight the NRA" and defended the ban as good for public safety.

"Is there anyone out there who really believes that we need more guns in public housing?" Newsom said. "I can't for the life of me sit back and roll over on this. We will absolutely defend the rights of the housing authority."

Notice he says "defend the housing authority"
NOT defend the PEOPLE living in public housing!
Evil! >:(

I am relieved, but at the same time concerned that it was so close. Why wasn't it 9-0? We were just one justice away from the decision going the other way! What about next time?

With people so patheticly socialist that they think the rights of the government are being violated, the political atmosphere could change overnight. Just one more Columbine/subway/Virginia type shooter might do it. Then it's off to knife legislation!

Give thanks to the Libertarians A.K.A. The Cato Institute, for making this happen. It was well planned, timed to perfection and executed without flaw - they performed a great service for all Americans for which we should all be thankful.

I am very thankful for the Cato Institute, and their work in support of the US Constitution.

I am also disturbed that it was not an unaminous decision - we have some real dumb people on that court!

Have you seen the sickening weeping and wailing from the liberals all over the tv? It seems they are expecting thousands of gunshot casualties to suddenly start appearing in the ER, just because the court struck down the unconstitutional denial of self-defense rights for those who live in Washington DC. I saw one woman on a Sunday show who was almost in tears, she was so upset. She was pathetic, and really offensive when she made these big innocent eyes and cried "why should anyone have a gun to hunt, when meat is available all packaged up in the grocery store?" With attitudes like that, I can easily see them all in a panic when that little plastic package in the grocery store isn't so readily available.

Liberals have such an abysmal lack of common sense, self-respect, and intelligence!
