I think that dog would be looking for another home or becoming compost after that. If they won't even bark when a threat or someone comes to the house, they are a waste of dog food. IF the dog did its yapping job then perhaps the owner may want to pay closer attention to the yapping. When my dogs yap, I am up right away. Sorry to hear about your buglary loss, hope you get the items back in good shape.

Bummer, sorry to hear it. Locks are only ment to keep honest people honest, maybe some motion detectors and floods would be helpful.

we had someone siphon Gasoline out of our car on a regular basis. After we got our dog one night around three AM he made the most awful ruckus like he was going to eat someone alive and barked on down the holler. Husband said, sounds like our gasoline thief was making a call. we never had gas taken anymore.
I hope they catch whoever, and you get your things back.

Since last November, we've had a prowler(s) in the neighborhood. Gas has been siphoned from vehicles and even from lawn mowers. Neighbors shops and sheds are getting broken into. My wife, having insomnia, has confronted the twit on two occasions with a 12 ga. She shot the first time but missed. Some night soon, I'll spend the night in a big tree with a .45, laser-sight and a phone. He won't be allowed toilet paper >:( .
This dog goes as far as unscrewing the bulbs on our motion-lights and other outdoor lighting. Keep an eye on those, folks.

Sorry to hear about your items being taken.
Our house was broken into one day when I was
at work. My husband left at 8:00am and I got home
at 10:00 am. THey stole our fireproof box. All it had in
it was the deed to our property and the 30 yr loan payment slips. However it gives you a very creepy feeling when you come home and not know if someone is going to be there. THey where planning on coming back because they also broke the lock on the patio door
but did it so you wouldn't notice. We had a dog but he was tied up becasue he went running all the time. We
where going to get a large dog and the insurance CO
said they would drop us becasue of the liablity issue the
dog posed. THey caught the people that where breaking into house but never called and said anything about our security box. My guess is they found no money so they tossed it. I hope you get your stuff back and maybe flood lights and some noisy trip alarms would keep them away. I wonder did they know you
where home? Kinda of bold to break in when you were
home. Be safe.

When the gas for my mowers started disappearing I put the real gas father back in the shed and the 25/75 and a few cups mixture in the front. Smells like gas, must be gas right? 25% gas, 75% water and a few cups of sugar just for fun (nobody said they were bright thieves). They got two 5 gallon containers but hey they haven't been back! They have never messed with my cars but they are closer to the house and we have motion lights that light them up light a stadium. The biggest problem with dogs or boobytraps is that is a lot of states you will be the one going to jail and/or paying hospital bills. Just isn't right.

Fellow here in town the the gas and water trick..but it was winter. saw him walking later that night. Friend of mine picked up a paint ball land mine...it's a C02 with a thread like trip wire. he filled the thing with flower. When the Halloweener's come to soap his house, they get dusted.
He also set up a leg trap with a blank shotgun shell rig that was atached to a wire... when the wire was tripped, the trap would slap shut...a BB on one jaw of the trap would strike the primer on the shell, and the blank shell...located up a tree would bang. it was safe sue proof and unlike a dog that might bark at a cat in the night...like my pack of hounds... or a light that goes off when a deer crosses the lawn, this was unmistakeable

I love that idea. Sounds like something my husband would do. If you steal from me you'll soon regret it.

We had our home broken in to in just a little over an hour from the time my DH left until I returned home. They thought that they were still in there when I got home but went out the back door. It's a creepy feeling that you never get over, but it is a wake up call for sure.
I figure it is only going to get worse with the economy the way it is.

We've had several attempted break ins here,a dog that sounds big and mean seems to do the trick,at least here so far.
You don't need to get a Rotti or a purebred, just a big dog that knows the difference between friend and thief.
Our old dog would have tried to go through the window to get at someone breaking in.He was so alert, that the slightest off noise, and he started barking and growling.
When he was just a pup,we would take turns hiding and making noise at the windows, while the other was inside telling the keyword to the dog" burglar"......by the time he was a year old,he was an excellent watch dog.
Our current dog puts on a good show too.

Sorry about the thefts, thieves are pretty low in my book.
If they are minors, too bad a beating by a belt can't be issued by the courts. It'd do those little pests wonders.

I still remember walking up to the door of my DD's house in Portsmouth, VA and realizing the wooden door was open just as she reached for the screen. I grabbed her arm and hissed" get in the car now! the front door's open!" Should have seen us run and we drove off to where we could stop in a parking lot under a very bright light before putting the baby in her carseat. If you knew my DD you'd know just how big a No-No that is as she won't go anywhere without all the girls in their car/booster seats and she and I with our seatbelts buckled.
That's very frightening!
The one time I was burgularized I knew who did it but since it was my word against his the cops knew he wouldn't admit to it as we were out of town at the time and the people where he was staying would have backed him up as they were supposed to be watching my house.

Im very sorry to hear about the burglary. *I hope they catch the thief or thieves. *I cant stand a thief nor a liar!!
Wally World has some really inexpensive wireless surveillance cameras that you can hook up to your tv/vcr. *Being wireless is a plus. *Some only come on and record when they detect movement. *Get some that are for night use and get a long recording vhs tape.

They have very reasonable security cameras and such. I got camera's on a pan and tilt base. Two cameras cover my house.
As for stealing gas, remember to get a locking gas cap, it won't stop someone who's determined but it will stop the lazy ones. As for exterior lighting I stopped at Home Depot and they had florescent security lamps that light up my front yard like you wouldn't believe.
