dilemma: live in hot so. AZ; air cooled gensets do not last long in heat.

Possible solution: position small evap. cooler near air intake of engine. entrance air would be 70 to 80 degrees on very hot day when ambient was 115 degrees.

anybody think this would work? I have a new generac 15KW genset.

I run my 15kw genset with an air cooled tractor. That way i can use "that" tractor for other things when i don't need the genset running.

I've never seen my air cooled tractor over heat no matter how hot it get's or what the load is...

Using something that's industrial rated like a tractor, is the answer for me...

how hot does it get where you are?

I've seen it get 100+ here... BUT, a friend of mine was on one of the crews to put out the oil well fires that Sadam started in gulf 1. The only gensets that could take the heat of the fires and sun were the Deutz powered ones. All of them were air cooled...

A farmer friend of mine in the deep south runs Deutz powered pumps... Sometimes they run for weeks at a time, pumping water 24/7... He wouldn't use them if they weren't reliable...

Another excelent line of air cooled diesel are the ones made by SLH, and they don't have over heating problems either... AGCO sold a line of SLH powered tractors, good tractors... Both Deutz and the SLH tractors are sold all over the world, from deserts to the south pole. They are proven to be reliable in the heat and the cold. I have them too, so i know what there like...

An air cooled generator should be just fine with that heat as long as it has no free air restrictions, like being run in a shed where the air gets super heated from the generator itself etc.
The other thing you may consider is using synthetic oils as they are more tolerant of high heats without losing its ability to lubricate.

I have walked past alot of those Duetz units. Mostly packing parts to Jimmies,Cats ect. If they are kept up on routine maintanance they last!
