we were out at the cabin this weekend & all of the sudden heard a really loud engine or something. i had seen a road crew trimming trees on the way in. it sounded like a helicopter at first but i thought maybe it could have been a shredder. this cabin is located in a small pasture with mountains on both sides so it echoes.
i got up to see if i could spot this loud noise & here is what i saw when i walked to the tree line next to the pasture....

it may be hard to see but there were cutting blades hanging 20 feet or so from the bottom of this cable & slicing trees like cheese.

yeah this guy was pretty damn good. there was a breeze that day too plus he has to have a fair amount of tension pulling him when the blades start to bite. i wish i could have gotten some better shots cause before i grabbed the camera he was slicing off bunches of limbs all at one time.
a buddy happened to stop buy later doing some bow hunting & said he had talked to the pilot. he gets a $1000 an hour for his service.

Gee I wouldn't like to be going for a stroll in the woods and suddenly having tree branches raining down on me. I know it was probably real loud but that doesn't mean I would have time to get out of the way.

annabella they make sure nobody is around the power lines when they are trimming so have no fear....you won't be getting a branch shower next time you are out walkin ;D

Awesome!
Hey! Someone can fly the helicopter, someone can hold my legs, and I'll dangle out the side with a chainsaw. We can split the cash 3 ways. Any takers? :D

I'll hold your legs....
But really, they can't be too precise with that thing. Looks like it would butcher up the trees pretty badly and then the trees would die. :'(

trees die & others grow back. as far as clearing limbs for power lines in these types of areas i doubt that many trees actually get KILLED & if they were then i consider it a crime of passion.
Katrina i think in true backwood homes spirit we need to make the helicopter ourselves. i am up for that. i also love microsoft flight sim 3 & am a decent pilot.....i can get a helicopter sim to learn so i can fly it. so the breakdown is $300 a piece for the 3 of us.

i think that this would be one situation where it would be ok to eat burritos. the helicopter prop will force any undesirable odors down to the ground.
They use these along the power lines in the smokies, & it's pretty intense to see... from afar !!

LOL! The burritos can provide enough force we'll get the helicopter moving really fast :D.
