I think it is time for everyone to check in on how you spent your weekend. Many of us have been busy this summer with gardens in full swing and completing home improvement projects. It is hard to get on here and post updates on what we are doing.
Friday I started the weekend by picking all of my ripe tomatoes and preparing spaghetti sauce and canning it. I cleaned my house from top to bottom and watered.....always watering to be done. Friday night was off to a Fireman's dinner in the park followed by dancing to music supplied by a live band.
Saturday was the day of our local rib and chili cook off. I caught up with some friends and spent a large part of the day sampling some really great ribs and chili (all free). To beat the heat we sipped margaritas. After the cook off we were off to our local pub to socialize and listen to another wonderful band.
Sunday morning I was up early (believe it or not) and picked up a bucket of raspberry plants at a friends to transplant in the garden. I already have raspberries but not this kind and it is really hard to turn down free plants. I got the raspberries in and discovered I had a broken water line....dam..a ditch digging job. I turned my outside water off (it has a separate shutoff from the house water) and dug my potato crop while the water around the broken pipe receded into the ground. I then proceeded to dig a three foot deep and approximately six foot wide hole. ...through the mud. I discovered that a fitting on the bottom of my spicket had cracked and needed to be replaced. We live forty miles from the hardware store so I keep a stock of replacement PVC parts. But I didn't have that one. So I was off to visit the neighbors to see it they had it....seven neighbors and two hours later still no part. I will have to pick it up on my way through town on my way to work this evening. I will have to fix it in the morning when I get home. I then returned home and picked all of my ripe cherry tomatoes, green beans , peppers, cucumbers and squash. I hopped in the shower and went to dinner a friends house who was having a small get together. The sun was setting, the weather was cooling off... and we all sat in front of an outdoor fireplace having eaten a wonderful meal and enjoying a glass of wine.

YES ..life in the country is good!!!

That sounds like a nice weekend other than the unplanned maintenance. Of course if it wasn't the water pipe, I'm sure it would have been something else.

We started out at a local amusement park on Saturday. My mother-in-law's employer does a day there every fall. There is no entrance fee for the park and they provide a bunch of tickets for rides as well as lunch. We stopped for dinner on the way home and that took us to about bed time.

Sunday we woke up and continued our effort on the new chicken coop. That carried us up to lunch. After lunch, it was showers and then off to my fathers 60th b-day party. We ate and relaxed for a while there until we left to come home. That was pretty much it!

Well, last weekend of course I started the day by feeding and watering the goats, chickens, ducks, Angora rabbits, dogs and cats....This included filling up one of the two small plastic swimming pools for the ducks (I try to alternate days!)

I also washed out the black plastic trays underneath the bunnies where the cages are hung one on top of each other on the wall....
I then hung out two large loads of clothes to dry...

I made sure my little "store" off my carport was fairly clean and made sure there were eggs ready in the fridge on the carport in case any customers stopped by...

Worked on another lap quilt while husband watched football this afternoon then repeated all the animal chores and restocking eggs...

Not very eventful but busy!!!

What I NEED to do this weekend is make some more blackberry jelly, clean the refridge, clean by writing office/craftroom, and work on another lap quilt!

The weekend before last I traveled to the other end of the county and got three new Angora rabbits and picked up the pedigrees on five rabbits I'd bought from Christie late last year.

(WHINE)

I have been doing paperwork most weekends. I lost some plants to neglect.

The ONLY weekend bright spot in a couple of months was the bird auction I went to. I needed more chickens, and I now have them!

I name my chickens. I have named these "Big Red and the Little Red Hens". They are 2 red Wyandottes, and some banty cochins. I would have prefered a wider range of colors, but these are laying hens and so utility comes before fancy feather patterns. I strong-mindedly went past the blue laced birds that were labeled as being 3 years old, and on to the more usefull birds!

Well this past weekend(Saturday) i left work at noon so that my friend could reposition my 32 foot camper trailer on the land that i just bought. Now that he put it where i want it I feel a little more "settled in" even though i dont live there full time yet. But at least now i can start on making it mine and personalizing it. I did have someone mow about 5 acres of grass that was way too high(i have 10 acres). He mowed areas that i wanted left alone but thats ok cause i know it will grow quick. I need a mower but i got to take baby steps. We also scattered hen scratch for doves way in the back by the waterhole as white winged dove season starts Friday Sept.21., put out some cornfeed, shot a rabbit for supper then we sat on the tailgate whilst sipping on some ice cold beer and overall just really enjoyed each others company as a shower passed thru.
Im off all of next week for 7days as it is my rotation week. ;D Im looking forward to working on my land...just what nots like putting reflectors on my fence and gate cause it is pitch dark. I dont have electricity yet or water or sewage hookups. I also need to weedeat, take measurements for my windows so that i can make some new curtains, clean out the storage compartments and spray for insects(for good measure), air out the trailer, replace some screen on 2 windows, buy some plexi glass.....you get the picture and I cant wait to be there and watch the sunrise and sunset out in the quiet and open.

Yes'um...Life is Good.

PS...any advice on getting started living out in the middle of nowhere is always appreciated.

Last weekend, work day at my brother's house, digging, painting, hauling, etc. *(instead of gifts, we give each other "days" for birthdays and Christmas. *That means the whole family shows up for the day, and you get to have them do whatever you want) Then church on Sunday, and after church dinner out with my adopted Grandma, then home to tear apart my utility trailer.

This weekend, finished welding new cross members on the trailer, power washed, primed and painted it. *May need a second coat. *Also replaced the belt and one of the spindles on the mower deck, and finally got all the grass cut. *Came straight home from church to get right at the painting, barely finished in time to let it dry before dewfall. *Days are getting shorter....
