UHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGGG

A person lays down and his mind won't shut down. It bounce from one thought to the next like a super ball bouncing in a closed container. Never staying on one thought long enough to determine any conclusions. The hours drift by in a haze of frustration of knowing sleep isn't coming. But it still teases you with the awareness that you were half asleep but your mind wouldn't let go. It forces you back to its mindless mission what ever that is. Then you start rolling side to side looking for that sweet spot. The place where you're to comfortable and relaxed where you can't but help fall asleep. But by then the hips start to ache or your back and finally out of frustration you role over and sit up in bed and walk over to the computer push the buttons and you find yourself in the BWH forum reading. This has been my life the last 3 nights. This is the fourth post I've made this night and that's a record for me. I normally go weeks even months between post. This forum has found and struck an accord with me as I see read glimpses into your lives. I have learned quite a little about myself through you all and I would like you all to know I appreciate that. Thank You

Well its a little after 5 and I think I'll go make myself a full sit down breakfast which I normally don't do until the weekends. Possibly take a walk before work, the weather man promised we would finally get a break from all the heat and humidity we been having.

I do that same thing sometimes. I hate it when my mind won't shut off.

A couple of ways I've used to combat it -
1. Make myself get up and do something I really don't enjoy, like ironing or cleaning the fridge!

2. Find that peaceful place that I've saved for stressful times - a childhood memory of sitting on the bank of a creek with my toes in the water, phoebes calling in the distance, my one arm around a small tree holding me in place, and the taste of a tiny, sweet wild strawberry in my mouth.

Of the two, I prefer the second, but the first usually convinces my brain to settle down and cooperate to sleep faster! (I really, really hate cleaning that fridge!)

I have a huge stack of COUNTRYSIDES and BACKWOODS HOME MAGAZINES (and some from Mary Janes FArm) beside my bed....

I also have a little $7 clamp on lamp from Wal-Mart clamped to the headboard. (It doesn't bother husband while he sleeps)...

I usually read myself to sleep every night....I imerse myself in the stories of others and it gets mind off all the "important" things in my life that keep going round and round in my brain....

My only problem now is that I often fall asleep with my new glasses on....So I've started sleeping with a hardshell glasses case under my pillow so when I start getting really drowsy (or when I wake up slightly after already having dropped the magazine in the floor) so I can just stow my glasses safely....

best wishes!

Sometimes when sleep patterns get off it is really hard to get back on track. I have found that if I drink any caffeine after about 2:00 pm I won't sleep, my mind won't shut down. I avoid caffeine in the evening. A glass of wine before bed sometimes help relax me enough to make me sleep. I have also used Tylenol pm to get my sleep patterns back on track.

there are some people who can fall asleep after drinking coffee. If I drink a cup in the afternoon I can stand up straight in bed at midnight. Ugh.
If there is nothing troubling my mind and I have not taken anything into my body that will keep me awake, then I find if I take a few dolomite tablets (cacium and magnesium) I fall asleep.
It is worthwhile to find out what will keep you awake. some things you might not suspect have a stimulating effect. One thing besides coffee is white whine. So far I have met several women who have noticed they react the same way, (and with low blood pressure) , citrus and pineapple, vitamin C taken in the afternoon and I won't sleep all night.
Maybe you are familiar with Hildegard von Bingen. She said, an apple in the morning is gold, at noon silver and at night lead.
If it is tension drinking a tea of passionvine, valerian, hops, lemon balm can help.
Lol, have cleaned the fridge before too Carol Ann.

There is nothing worse than laying awake at night when all the world is asleep.I hope that you can have nights of peaceful slumber again soon.

Half hour before bedtime drink 3 tablespoons ground walnuts in 1/4 cup of skim milk. You will sleep like a rock.

To the OP, go to your M.D. and get a prescription for Temazepam 30 mg. you will sleep really nicely without any real hungover effects. The US Air Force calls it the "no go" pill because they give it to fighter Pilots who are all pumped up and ready for a mission but their mission gets scrubbed.

Good Luck
