View Full Version : Threat Suppression?
I've not gotten into trouble shooting off my mouth in a day or so, therefore I now blunder forth.
One thing that has always bugged me after 9/11 is the official scorning of an asset that we have traditionally made use of during time of national emergency. Former soldiers and many others have always been used in the past to guard dams, bridges, and other things that are targets of opportunity for sabotage and terrorism. An old-timer, or middle-aged man that has in the past been trained to use a rifle, (or even an experienced hunter) can effectively be used to secure these potential targets, and supply almost all his own support, and for free. This was a tradition in times past, why is it considered ludicrous now? The only reason they aren't used, is because they are tactically/cost effective. But to do that would lead to the validation of the armed individual as an asset to the country. That I feel, is even more abhorrent to some of the powers that be than a successful attack on our homeland. Obviously, towing the political line is far more important than securing the country.
Why should an off duty cop be pulling down time and a half or double time to guard a power station, when any competent security guard is capable of doing that for at most 1/3 the cost? A volunteer could do if for nothing, and many would be available for given sites that an armed squad would be on duty most of the time. I am quite willing to volunteer one day a week for that, but it is unheard of for an offer to be accepted. And, would likely result in being put on a watch list for one’s efforts. How screwed up is that? I know the real ereasons, but needed to blow off steam.
We live in the age of silliness.

Yup, age of silliness!! The PTB sure don't want to validate anyone they can't control. They have to perpetuate the myth that only they can protect the public.. Keep the sheeple scared and dependent.
Thanks for the reminder

Validation of an armed individuals--is the ans.[quoting Jim ]]
It would make null and void all the gun laws passed in recent years.
Its the great lie told to this country--that we must be
handles and protected from all things--handled as dumb little kids.
People must understand--that its not protecting us[[the gov't]] its dumbing us down--until we will not be able to think for ourselves--how many know how to fire a gun---plant a garden?
Last year I had the stats on how many in this country were on welfare---SSI--Wic--the non-working leeches.
And they will be the greatess---of all threats---
Will we or do we want to save them--or protect this country for them??
I have mixed feelings over that.
I have wondered over others--how they feel about it.

I too believe that the threat we face comes not from without, but from within.
1)The 'entitlement' generations, who firmly believe that the gummint will save them - and when it doesn't, go door to door demanding by force the fruits of others' labor;
2) The gummint itself, that treats all of us as ignorant children, easily inspired to fear of things under our beds, in the closets, or in the local churches and mosques;
3) The blind generation, that is all about possessions, bigger homes, bigger cars, bigger bigger and more more, without knowing or understanding that cheaper isn't better, you get what you pay for, and that hard work and labor should not only bring you emotional satisfaction but physical comfort;
4) those of us who firmly believe that, as long as we are honest, upright, upstanding, fair, and clean-living citizens that no one will harm us, especially our own government.
My local cops know that I carry and that if I ever see them in trouble I will respond to their aid. I have been in a situation (on tape) where I called for backup for one of my boys and was told by the dispatcher that their people were on mandatory lunch break and could not respond. I told her that if she did not send help, she could send the coroner, cause I was going to help my boys. She sent help. Redneck? Heck yes.
The collapse of our government and our country is going to be directly related to the common citizenry being overwhelmed by local lawbreakers and scofflaws (both home-grown and imported) who, in their search for self-gratification, will stop at nothing to get what they want. China, North Korea, Iraq, Iran, the Taliban - these threats are as nothing compared to the quagmire that we have invented for ourselves and continue to support, defend, and promulgate. We have but opened our country's doors to these terrorists, and left them unguarded, and have in fact encouraged them to hate us by our insistence that WE know best in every situation. But we cannot even promote or maintain a republic within our own boundaries, much less one in any country that does not want it and will not support it.
Our current gummint does not and will not respect, promote, and support those citizens who actually can and will ensure that the Constitution and individual rights are protected and enforced, and instead tries to be the be-all and end-all in defense of those rights while actually trampling on them.... blindly and firmly and without futurevision of what must occur because of its insistence on omniscient nannyism both at home and abroad.

Number 4 will get ya killed or jailed.
Being a [[good little citizen]] is being good according to someone elses dictates.
We have both said the same thing and I too believe that Nannyism will be the death of freedom as we know it.
Jim---I'll take one old marine over 6 crack-heads anyday.
But then an armed society IS a POLITE Society--huh?

Funny you should mention a Security Guard guarding a power station because that is what I do. Guess what they use unarmed security guards to guard power stations. At least that's what I'm supposed to be. ;)
Been there, done that! Stay as safe as you can!

Another flew through a wall and hit the walk-in cooler,
One bullet shattered the store's glass door.
Two misses. Dang, what a waste of ammo! :-/ ;D
