i had a lil mission project down in NO. i know lots of folks that have been going to gulfport to help rebuild. seems like they were gettin it going to rebuild much faster but i still suspect there will be a few minor inconveniences. if you are lookin for some real americans you will find them there & they will be honored to have you as an american serviceman.
should be plenty of reconstruction type jobs but i have no clue about schools.

Sationed there for 10 years at the Seabee Base. Long Beach area is okay for schools (or was) If not there you want to be North of I-10. The town of Wiggins is about 50 min north on Hwy 49. Little sleepy town last time through in Aug 2005 I saw they had a Walmart now.
During Hurricane evac there are only really two routes North and two routes east/west. So either plan ahead or plan to stay.
Sauicer(pronuced SO sha) is okay as well which is south of Wiggins.

My brother went down there on a mission trip from church helping to rebuild. Last year they all got bitten all over by flies and looked miserable when they got back. But they are all going back again this year.

my advice is that if you are gonna go down their to help & if you are from the north then do it in the winter time so you can be comfortable in a t-shirt & there will be less bugs!
