Homemade Solar Panels

I found a website that had posted plans to make a solar panel. Can one really build a homemade functional solar panel for use in a home?

HI All;

The plans are for a solar hot water heater.
Sorry I don't have the website, it may very well be backwoods. I copied the article in txt and printed it but the source was not printed. It comes from an article "Build Your Own Solar Water Heating Panel". I have had this article in printed txt format for several years. It was printed before my hard drive was fried and replaced about a year and a half ago. I lost a lot of info, emails, photos that were not printed or saved on disk.

I built a batch type collector that I use during the summer, it works good.
I can't remember the name of the book containing the plans, but it's still around here somewhere.

SolarGary's webite has a ton of info on solar water heating.
