Do any of you refuse to buy things that are "branded" with names like Disney and so on? I'm like my DD and I personally don't see buying into such commercialism. Just can't justify the expense.

i'll buy carhartt stuff cuz it fits pretty well, and wears long. the walmart knockoff is not bad for things i won't wear as often.
i will not buy anything with obvious marketing logos/print like Old Navy, and i don't wear printed t-shirts at all. the small labels on the carhartts don't really count. i'm talking about people that buy nike shirts cuz they say "Nike" and the like.
in general, however, i would buy branded stuff (that's not overtly printed) at a Salvation Army, because some of the branded stuff like Champion sweatshirts, Carhartts, Dickies, etc are just made much better than most of the generics.

Yes, I agree that buying items that are what I
call"fashion branded" rather than "name branded"
is something I'm opposed to because it enriches
the "fashion" company and not the workers who
made it. Those workers are often enslaved low/no
wage humans. Disney, Caterpillar, etc. Don't make
clothes so why should they profit from them??
"Name Branded" often (not all the time) means that
the workers are paid something close to a decent wage.
"Name branding" also means that one has a good guide
to fit and overall quality. Carhartt, Dickies, Key are all
examples of "name branding".
Peace,
Why dont we as a people make our own clothes "locally"?
One has the power of ones mind ,mouth ,muscle , money and muzzle.
We and our predecessors have relinquished ours in all of these facets.
Even here we are allowed to speak of philosophy or spirituality, we are to immature or just too ignorant with our heads wrapped in the flag.
Lead by example and do for yourself...first.
Peace

HHHMMM.......I haven't "bought" clothes in going on two years........but would never buy anything just because it was a certain brand or had a certain character on it.
I'm not much for fads,I just buy what I need and leave it at that.

For the people walking around with Tommy Hilfiger or Nike and the other, all you are is a free walking advertisement for their products, I'd much rather wear something that didn't have all that all over the fabric, and you have to pay a high price for the right to advertise for them.

I drive car dealers crazy when I remove the dealer
sticker from the cars I buy. I tell them that if they
want the ad space they will need to pay me for it.
So far none have.

I do the same thing , not for that reason though. I just think they are ugly.

I used to drive students nuts by asking them if they got paid by the company for advertising their products. What, they don't pay you? I would not pay THEM for doing free advertising, no sir. funny, I never seemed to get through to them. I have found generic pants much better made and stronger material than the Calvin Cline almost look a like and my niece still wanted the one with Calvin Cline on it. does that make sense?

Hey Guys;Calvin Klein jeans are the only jeans that I wear. They fit me like they were custom made for me.Also here in Los Angeles there is a book that is updated yearly called "Buying Retail is Stupid" which lists hundreds of stores that sell high end merchandise for wholesale prices.I have Never paid more than $24.00 for a pair of CK jeans.
Also who has time to sew their clothes? Also blue jean yardage costs more per yard than the CK jeans cost.-

Carhart and Walls are good brands and worth the money I believe. But medium to heavy weight denim fabric costing more than a pair of jeans? I think not. I sew all husband's and sons' broadfalls, jeans, and I believe it costs about $12 for the denim from the mail order fabric store in Bird-In-Hand. I bought a 1000 m. roll of the gold denim thread a while back and it lasts a long time. Zippers are usually recycled. And I have time to sew, as this is part of my vocation as wife and mother. I also am able to measure and fit the clothing to fit them exactly, and to give where they want it to give. Very satisfying to see my husband and children go about in clothing I have sewn.

Can I get info on the mail order fabric store?

I shop for fabric at a mill end factory store, you can usually find denim for two to three dollars a yard, then sometimes they have a 50% coupon that you can use.

I believe the pants I have on right now are a "big" name but it's only on a small tag inside the waistband not out where everyone can see it. Also, if I actually bought them they had to come from a thrift store as I haven't bought anything like pants, blouses, or so on that was new for about 10 years.
Am also one of those who won't do free advertizing for a company. I do wear tee shirts with pictures on them but usually get them from a thrift store or a friend or the like. In the early '90's when I was working downtown at a small bookstore I would buy my daughter and I each a new picture teeshirt about twice a month at the local tourist trap that had pretty reasonable prices. I always told them to cut off where it said "San Antonio" if they didn't have the decal without it. After all, I know what city I live in and I don't need it on what I'm wearing to remind me.
It's so difficult now to find clothing, especially for small children that isn't branded, especially the Disney stuff. If I had a working sewing machine I would make my granddaughters a few things.

for 24 dollars I get several pairs of pants. Not knocking you Zebra. to some, 24 seems little and to some it is much.

I like sewing for myself, just because I get a better fit. I use to sew all the grandkids knit tops and pajamas until they got big enough where they wanted to run around with the name brand tops, I refuse to buy them clothes anymore, usually end up for birthdays and Christmas giving them money, they put part of it into savings and then buy what they want.

I'm guilty. ;) ::)
I don't buy things with logos for any status purpose.
I only buy them (second hand usually) for the artistic look. There are some very high end brands I don't like the look of, so will not purchase no matter how cheap I can get it.
My daughter and I have several Disney items and we collect the pins as memorabilia. We live in FL and have discounted yearly passes so we go a lot. She goes with my brothers family even more when I work.
That said, I don't buy these things because of who made them or what they cost. I purchase them for the enjoyment I get looking at them and the memories that accompany them.

Just dawned on me that I am guilty to an extent. I buy and collect some Hard Rock Cafe branded items. I usually get one of their little pins if I can afford it when I eat there. I also have a Hard Rock Cafe Monopoly game, I collect Monopoly games and knockoffs- like the one I found at B&N for chocolate lovers.

I'd say that this is different than buying "fashion" for the sake of
"fashion",mate. What you're doing is "collecting" which is a nice
past time. I collect 2 brand of pocket knives and use a beat up
old knife I got used. But the knives I collect are only two fashion
brand names in knives. *;D ;D

I mainly wear t-shirts (unless I'm "going out")
Most of the shirts I wear have stuff on them....most from a university that I have had two kids go through.
I'm proud to wear them and jokingly tell folks that they cost me around $100,00.00 each (which ain't all that far from the truth)
I have a few others, but folks that wear 3-X sized stuff usually aren't that well supplied off the "fashionable" racks so I just buy what I can find that'll fit.
Jeans that I wear run the gamut but here lately I have settled on Carhart as they are a little heavier denim than I have found in other brands and they fit better.
I used to wear Levis but since they went overseas they have gotten where they don't last like they used to .... denim is much lighter now...almost feel like dress pants.
For work I wear a lot of Dockers brand stuff because it looks and fits good.
I wish my wife was a seamstress (like she's got time to be) but she ain't.
My Mom was and made nearly all of my shirts when I was a kid (and they fit well and looked great)

Good to know I'm not alone. ;D
It is interesting the things we choose to collect and why.
Speaking of knives I got my first Swiss Army knife for x-mas last year. My SIL still doesn't understand why I was so happy with that gift. ;D ;)
Not so guilty,
