......with the front end of my van! :'(
We were coming back from taking DS to a doctor's appointment in CHicago. We were about 200 yards from town and crashed.
There was a jacked up truck coming from the opposite direction. He had his brights on and would NOT turn them off...even after I flashed him a couple of times. To make matters worse, they were those really bright hallogens. It ended up blinding me, so I was slowing down. About the time the front of his truck was even with me, a deer just stepped out about 5 feet ahead of me.
I didn't have time to swerve and hit the deer full force in the front-driver's side. It flipped him WAY up in the air. He flipped around at least twice and I was trying to keep from going into the ditch and then the river on one side , the other lane on my side and keep the deer from landing in the windshield. It seemed like forever when that deer was in the air.
He came down on the passenger side hood and rolled off where we hit him again and the front of the van went into the air. We finally stopped.
Of course at this point, DS starts belly laughing. He thought it was great fun ::)
It took the whole front driver's side off. My Mom was int he back of the van with DS. She had just straightened him in his car seat. Had she not, he probably would have broken his neck. She flipped over the seat. Her back, stomach, and ankle were sore today.
I have a nice big bruise from the seat belt across my shoulder and chest and whip lash. I also sprained my right ankle when I was STANDING on the breaks. DS is fine, and there were no others involved (except the guy in the truck who sped off when he saw we hit the deer).
I've got the antler that was sticking out of the hood of the van. The game warden came out to get the carcass. We were going to have it processed, but it was pulverized. YUCK! Plus, there were at least 3 trees worth of forms we had to fill out to be able to take it.
Its always something isn't it? :)
