View Full Version : Sold an article to BWH!
I did it! I finally sold an article to BWH!!!! yea!
It may be in the next issue but it could come out in a later one....it is on how we built the little chicken house and chicken enclosures which alternate on either side with the garden...based on an article John Silvera did years ago which is in one of the anthologies...
I've been a writer since 1975 and a reporter since 1980 (and now a newspaper editor) and I don't know when I've been so tickled over something going to be published! I'm not Jackie Clay for sure but this is certainly neat neat neat!!!
My only regret it that the guy who got me started reading BWH when it first came out passed away last year....It would have been just as tickled as me!
I am like a little kid about this! happy happy happy! ;D
I should have said Nelson would have just as tickled as me---not "it!" But I am so excited that I made a typo!!!

Oh Suzy...I can't wait to read it. I have read the article, about the chicken coup/garden/compost yard, by John Silvera several times and I would like to have a similar set up. I'm really interested in seeing how you have yours set up.

BTW Congradulations!!

Congratulations, Suzy!
Anyone else who may be interested in sharing some of their knowledge on the pages of BHM should check out the writer's guidelines at http://www.backwoodshome.com/docs/writerguidelines.html
And you don't have to be a professional writer like Suzy!! You just need to be able to put what you know on paper or type it into a word processor like MS Word.
I think Suzy will back me up when I tell you that few things compare to seeing your by-line in print for the first time.
So start typing!

Way to go, Suzy. I'll be looking forward to reading it. By the by, do you sell your goat-milk soap? If so would you send me a message with the price?

Congradulations Suzy: Some people due and some just dream :-* Cassie
I agree with Oliver! Some of the rest of you know SO MUCH MORE about homesteading....write it down and send it in!!! Sharing your knowledge is wonderful....but yes...I must warn you....as Oliver said....nothing in the world compares to seeing your name in print!
When I was 11 years old, the local weekly newspaper published a poem I wrote....once I saw my name in print and smelled that newspring that ink was in my blood for good....hehehe
thank you for all your congratulations and support!

lol,
I too noticed it was in 2006, but i understand the accomplishment and I too extend a congratulations!
I am having a lucky day today, (this is somewhat on topic)
I got a call this morning from one of my editors (i've written articles for a few pet health magazines). I was surprised when she called because I haven't submitted anything for query in several months.
She said "I've got an article here that you sent me last year. I did love the article but didn't have any room for it in the forseeable issues. Anyways, as long as first rights are still available, I'd like to publish it in the upcoming August 2010 issue"
This comes up just as I spent $200 yesterday on auto repairs...
I am definitely having a lucky day.

congrats to you. Job well done.

Congratulations on your sale!!!! Doesn't it really really help your writing ego when something like the editor calling happens!
I have a "regular" income from the state farming newspaper that I write for but I really really need those freelance sales!
thanks for all the kind words from everybody even though the article to BWH was in 2006. :)

Because I was looking for your article to forward to our old friend Elizabeth. She is having chicken house problems. I did find it and she was delighted. A very good article by the way.
