It was a gentle reminder to be prepared. You will remember next time. I'm glad you two were not hurt.

This was not a drill!
Sunday morning, 7:07, laying in bed half awake........then all hell broke loose.
We knew it was a quake but expected it to stop like they usually do but it just kept going. The whole house was rocking and it sounded like a train on the roof. We jumped up and staggered towards the door, got outside and it was still shaking violently. Then the wife looks at me and says, "Is the volcano blowing it's top?" Holy crap!!
Finally it stopped and we started looking for damage. The rock landscaping walls had fallen apart in 3 places near the house and a few things had fallen over in every room. It's amazing there was no real damage to the house and we only lost power for about an hour.
We both ran out of out of the house in our underwear so I didn't even grab my pants (keys, knife, lighter, wallet, etc.) and I staggered right past the Bug-out bag in the haste to get out.
So, if the house had gone down or caught fire we would have been screwed. >:(
Gonna have to work on that.

WOW! Glad you are okay!
But, yeah...work on that B.O.B. thing!
*imagine farmboy out in yard half-nekkid going "Damn, what are they gonna think of my preparedness over at BHM after this!?"

Farmboy, I was on my way to work, listening, as usual, to the radio show "Coast to coast AM". Since it was the weekend, Art Bell himself was on from Manila, Philipines. This was all the talk that night!
Epicentered, as I recall, about 90 miles NE of Hilo, but, not only very deep, but a "vertical" quake. One where the bottom can drop out and an island shrink, or even disappear into the sea!
Wow, the first person I thought of was you, m'man, and I am SO glad that you are alright! Hasn't been a lot on the news about it--just a blurb or two on CNN (and I'm sure some of the others)---- "a 6.5 or 6.6, "...etc. VERY little re: damages, etc.
Thanks for lettin' us know your still functional---well, as functional as you've ever been! ;) ;D ;)
