Been reading about NH bill for declaritation
of independence from the federal government
regarding the ID requirement in 2008.

Well, I searched and found our federal
government is broken down into 16 departments
and 2247 agencies within these 16 departments.

Anyone know how many total federal employees
we have?

1 in 5 Americans works for Government at some level (Federal, County, Municipal) so this means approximately 60 Million Americans are government employees.

Federal?
"Just how many people really work for the federal government? Official counts show a relatively small total of 1.9 million full-time civil servants, as of 1996. But, according to Paul Light, the true head count is nearly nine times higher than the official numbers, with about 17 million people actually providing the government with goods and services. Most are part of what Light calls the "shadow of government"—nonfederal employees working under federal contracts, grants, and mandates to state and local governments. "
That's 10 years ago - from this website:

Thanks CarolAnn, googling
True Size Of Government
gave volumes of information.

Prof. Light's research for the last 16 years
showed him to be the most experienced
and knowledgable on the subject.

So, we have approx. 17 million federal
employees, factoring in contractors and
grantees.

And, the size has grown. They just cut
federal government employees BUT used
contractors/grantees to do these jobs.

That's simple. Whatever the population of the United States excluding those on welfare and illegal aliens. We all work for those wonderful politicians and bureaucrats.

The excluded groups are the beneficiaries of our working also.

Is there something wrong with this picture?

Let me give you an example. In Minnesota the state government is the largest employee while the federal government and the state university and public school system vie for second position. Talk about the dog chasing it's tale.
