Corridor H is being built supposedly to get people from Washington DC, to central West Virginia in case of an emergency.

The effect that it is having is that land 111 miles west of DC is being subdivided and 5 acre tracts with 2 bedroom, 2 bath cabins are selling from $200,000 to $300,000. 1.5 acre tracts are selling for $30,000.
The New York Times

I am sympathetic for people along Corridor H. Their taxes are going up. More traffic. More people. More noise. Less serenity.

I observed the effect of Houston's exodus for Rita. 250 miles away people were carcamping along the road. If a Category 5 hurricane had struck Houston, many would have had no home or work to go to.

Soon, their money and food would be gone. Local generosity could only last a few weeks. Maybe $2000 from Red Cross after that. but how long would that last? Not that many jobs here. Not everyone will have job skills. Not everyone will know what work is expected here.

The Houston experience with Katrina victims isn't going to encourage big cities to do more than they did in the past. Certainly some of the people will have criminal histories. Some of the people will have criminal tendencies. Public and educational behavior may be much different from local expectations.

I suppose they could sell out, but serene, peaceful, polite places are becoming quite rare. Besides, as many of you will learn, starting over as you get older, becomes harder and harder.

History does repeat itself. A quick look at all the great
civilizations of the past will tell you that all fell from.....
within.

America is now on the path to self collapse for the very
same reasons that all fell.......apathetic population &
incompetent government. Oh well......China is all
set to take our place as the leading superpower.

And not a shot will be fired........

I saw that mass exodus also ... woulda been terrible IF Houston had of been hit and wiped out.
I'm not sure that many people could be absorbed...may get the chance to see one day.
Katrina and the folks from NO have sure shown how bad it can be, especially to Houston.

I wouldn't doubt that China will one day be a leading superpower (if they aren't considered that now)

If they were and we weren't do you think they would come to the US and enslave us ?

I'm not sure what effect such things will have on the us.
We are evidently way ahead of them on technology (otherwise they wouldn't have to steal our secrets)

They can't steal or acquire our brain trust (although they can take the smarter folks over there and make them figure out stuff for them...or even do that from here)

But they can't take the land (again...although they can come and occupy it)
They are a hard working lot of people (at least the ones I've seen) but they have never grown their technology the way we have making me think that they won't ever be anything more than an extremely large population using imported technology.

.

An "urban sprawl" post turned into what a weak country we're becoming and how china may someday want this land?

HOW SCARY! The scary part is that ALL of these posts are correct! I am not happy to agree with all this.

But as we watch the football game on the giant screen t.v. we bought on credit from some company that's financed by iran or venezuela, or china.....

.....and yes, walmart too, all that money is buying arms and technology to beat "the imperialistic pigs" etc.

As the leader of iran has said repeatedly "Imagine a world without America in it"

China wants us. Period. Our technology, our infrastructure, and yes, even our land. Do a search on global warming + china and you'll find out their country is now polluted beyond repair, but it's also turning into a dustbowl. Yep. Every year they lose thousands more acres to the encroaching desert.

Now where do you suppose they would want to go with a BILLION AND A HALF PEOPLE?

Then throw in the religious arab faction. They don't want our land. They don't want our money. They want us DEAD> Period. Capital D - DEAD. There's NO arguing with religious fanatics....

Now, add them all together, which is what we're seeing lately. cuba, communist china, russia, venezueala, iran, iraq, pakistan, and, and, and....

More than 60 countries in the world now hate us and would be happy if.....

And for all this you can thank our politicians.

And for all this you can thank our politicians. *

Sadly, you mean well but are incorrect as to WHO caused this mess.
*
"WE" did this by allowing the politicians & big business to control events by our apathy. Where are the mass angry demonstration? Where are the the voters each election? Where is honest news *
reporting? Where is America's "I've had enough"? *
*
If you don't know talk about this topic with as many of your *
friends and neighbors as you can. Spark the discussions to get
people thinking about the freedoms they are loosing by the day. *
Tell all you talk with to spread the discussion far and wide to alert
& wake American's from their consumer induced slumber. No
one country can overtake America unless "WE" give it away....
Which is what "WE" are doing now. *

China is now busy at work training thousands of children to become
lifetime expert solders along with thousands of worker bees to supply
the Red army. The mid-east countries are now in the grip of Islamic
zelots who seek America's destruction as means to hold their power.
Former Allies now disdain America as bloated spolied consumer
driven nation. Much of this damage started long ago and will be
completed by the Bush Agenda of stupidity and greed.

Now where is America's anger ??

you got what? million in the red army? you can't move a force like that in secret. don't know for sure. . . but they got nukes?

what does the US have.
very strong military machine. (but you get some gov't that tears it apart again, then you're screwed) you have the plains, ships, tanks. . . you have the rockets, and the bomb!

you're good friends with the second, and likely third most advanced military machines in the world. . .and should keep it that way.

Canada, although not a machine, is invested a lot more in her ships and plains. our army is getting bigger, and better trained.

no where near a million troops i'm sure, but it's the spirit of brotherhood that would pull the western world together to protect our way of life.

unless you collapse from within, and no one cares anymore.

tunnel vision of the good life is a bad thing.
