I have been visiting this forum for several months now, and have learned so much from so many of you. Thanks!

My husband and I are trying to sell our too big house so that we can move to some acreage we bought three years ago. We have a fifth wheel rv on the property now which we visit when we have a chance. So far, no on-site utilities. So I'll have alot of questions about solar etc. When the house sells (if) we intend to build a small house and barn there. I want to stock the pond and have chickens, and a big garden.

We started our preps only last fall, but I think we've made good progress. We have our long term storage food, water purification, cooking, lighting, tools, medical supplies, ammunition, canning supplies, and seeds covered. Now, we're just adding on and watching for shortcomings in our plan. We're bracing for high inflation and possible shortages/unrest. Hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. (well, maybe not the VERY worst, but at least some of the bad).

I have quite a collection of new products that I'm trying to learn to use...Berkey and steripens; hand grain mill; dehydrator; mandoline; cast iron dutch oven ; among others. My biggest confusion is how to use freeze dried and other storage food. I've perused many of the recipe suggestions already, but still wonder about reconstitution and every day usage. I've yet to grind wheat, but I'm anxious to start.

Anyway, nice to be here with all of you. Looking forward to getting more information. Hopefully someday, I can help some of the newcomers. Grits

Grits, Welcome.

I, too, started by living in my camping trailer on solar while I built a small house.... *I collect rainwater and wood is my primary heat source. *I only go through about 2 cords of wood per year.

Good luck and ask a lot of questions. * I am not associated with them but some of the best and most helpful guys are at backwoodssolar.com. *I used them and couldn't have asked for better. *Their prices are usually a better than most others.

I have been 100% off grid since May 1998 using solar. *But, I still don't have the knowledge I wish. *One of our moderators, 12vman is very well versed and an excellent source for your off-grid info.

Paul
