I pretty much went into the same situation 6 years ago,the clean up and out building repair not to mention house repair will keep you plenty busy,I am not done with the house yet,but it's liveable,I plan on implementing solar and wind power if I can,to pump water and maybe heat a couple outbuildings in our cold MI winters, lots of ideas to go around, thats for sure, enjoy the forums !

i think the only thing that could be called a structure on the place is the furnace and pan and partialy collapsed shed from the syrup cookin days.
someone came in and stole the grinder. it was dated southern plow 1916 and we used it as late as 85.
there is not even a meter loop on the place anymore.
it does have a spring creek and a 302 foot well that flows artesian, so there is plenty of water.
last i looked back in 05, there were six inch pines in the middle of the field.
yeah, its a mess, but with just a mowing and a plowing, i could probably put about six acres under a plow real quick.
there are five big pecan trees and about a dozen black walnuts.
one poor old pear tree that was still bearing last time i was up there.
there is a legacy from a deceased brother in law, a 49 ford tractor, though i do not know its state. i know it *started and ran as recently as 2007. there is what i have been told is a five foot brushhog shredder with it.
and yep, it took a job loss in vegas to wake me up to the fact that this place could provide a whole bunch, just like it did years ago.
my wife and i are headed for san antonio this week looking for work. currently in hobbs new mexico realizing a big job we have been waiting on is not gonna go.
once in san antonio i can reach the old farm in about four hours.
its gonna be fun to get back to the old haunts, fish some of the creeks and rivers back home!!!
we are self contained in a motorcoach, with generator and solar.
i really would like to do some fiddling around with wind and hydro on the creek is a dream ive had for YEARS AND YEARS.
