Greetings,

I've read thru a lot of subjects here, while lurking. Some that were very interesting to me, and some that i was not terribly interested in, just to try and get a sense of this forum. There is so much knowledge here !! And it seems as tho many are quite willing to share their knowledge. I hope to learn a lot here.

I live, with DH, on 15 acres...our homestead, in upstate NY. We have our garden, that we constantly work on improving. We have sheep, Nubian dairy goats, a half dozen chickens, two lazy cats, and one very spoiled Aussie dog (who care takes the whole place)

DH has a sawmill, and has cut lumber for almost all of our sheds. He also blocks and splits our winter wood. Oh how nice is wood heat in winter ! He's retired but stays very busy. I still work out, but who knows for how much longer.

Even tho the calendar says March...this AM we were at -1. brrr. There is still far too much white stuff on the ground ! But Spring is coming....so they say.

Happy Days. Mea.

Welcome. Glad to have you here. Sounds like you got plenty to keep you busy. Very good profit potential also with the mill etc.
I agree. I am ready for the snow to be out of Virginia as well. Take care and enjoy.

Welcome aboard. What breed of sheep do you have? I raised Suffolk for almost 30 years, but now just have show lambs for DD and raise a freezer lamb each year.

Hi,

We were blessed with a wonderful lady who has mentored us for 16 years or so. She raises Suffolk, and we purchased our beginner sheep from her.

DH really liked the looks of some Natural Colored sheep. (They actually looked like minature Hereford cattle, big and reddish.) We added a couple ewes from that herd. Funny thing...we never have gotten Color from them. Just the most lusterous white wool !

We're actually torn between the meaty-ness of the Suffolk, and the wool on the colored sheep. Guess we will keep crossing back and forth.

We do not show, but Do appreciate a nice looking animal ! Mea.
