A quick hello to you all...

I've been a subscriber to BHM for a few years now, and have just started browsing the online forums.

I live near Boring, Oregon (SE of Portland), and am a fifty year old guy. I currently work in Portland and commute daily.

My job will come to an end sometime around April-June of 2009, and I then hope to move to Alaska. I'm planning to move to either SE Alaska or the Kenai peninsula.

I may not post much, at least at first, as I'm still learning and don't have much expertise, but I hope to check in at least weekly.

I've already picked up quite a few tips from several posters, so thanks to everyone who's shared some of their wisdom. And many thanks to BHM and the forum volunteers for making all this happen!

Hi Ion,
I'm fairly new here and have already learned a lot from the site. Tons of good information!

SE Alaska is beautiful and doesn't shake (earthquakes) as much as the Kenai Peninsula. (I live in Fairbanks.) I've lived in AK over 30 years and can't imagine wanting to be anywhere else. :)

Hi Rose, thanks for the kind words and info.

I hadn't considered the earthquake frequency. We get fairly small earthquakes here every few years, but that's something to consider.

By the way, I didn't realize when I chose my member name that it would show up as "Ion" - it's actually "Lon" - but I kind of like the moniker "Ion"- I consider myself to be a positive person...

I've wanted to move to Alaska ever since I was in my late teens, but things just never quite worked out until now. Oregon and Washington are great places, but Alaska seems to have everything they have and more.
