Canaday

My name is Canaday, and I live outside Houston, Texas, in a rural area. I'm a 43 year old married mother of 4 children and two step children. My hubby is a Col. in the Marines (HOO WAH!), currently deployed.
We have a nice little homestead that we work to improve all the time. Put in a large garden this spring, one of the largest I've ever done, and it has given us quite a bit of produce, but it is about time to pull out the spring planted veggies and start seedlings for a fall garden. There were some existing pecan and peach trees when we bought this property, and we have planted a lot more since.
We keep some chickens for eggs (no meat birds this year because hubby is gone, although we have had them in the past) and two stinky little dwarf nubians for brush and grass mowers and general fun.
I am researching home schooling for our children (I had them one right after the other, you might say ;)) and we both firmly believe that raising children in a rural setting is healthier and more educational than raising children in an urban or suburban setting where kids today basically do nothing but watch television, play video games and eat. We believe children should run and play outside in fresh air and sunshine, and they should have a strong foundation in all things natural before they begin their formal education.
I am currently pursuing my Phd., and my personal hobbies are sewing, knitting, gardening, and many other homesteading, self sufficiency activities.
I have been lurking for a long time and thought it was time to register. I look forward to coming to this site every day.
