Just wanted to say hi, living here in Ontario in Mennonite country. I came across BWH magazine while on a layover in L.A. last month. What a wonderful mag! Been planing on moving to the country for a while and was planning on making the move this fall, but life has happened recently so I guess it will be put off for a little while yet, but who knows maybe not.

Hi there and welcome to the forum! I'm in Southern Ontario too (Windsor to be exact), also planning on moving to the country at some point but right now it's more dreaming than planning.

Where are you planning on moving to? There's a lot of nice land in your area, might be pricey though? When we move to the country there is no way we are staying in Essex County, nary a tree to be seen anywhere. :)

Welcome to the forum!Where you live is beautiful once you're out in the sticks-pricey though, like MotherCharlotte says. We live just outside of Petrolia, 25 min from Sarnia, Ontario. Just as pricey to buy, but we live on 2 acres with a FREE farmhouse thrown in..lol. When we're done saving we'll go far north(the Soo or maybe Cochrane to build a cabin we can grow old in)You're going to enjoy this forum! And it's great to see another Canadian!

Hey Mothercharlotte/smileylove, I know the area would drive through every week on my way to the border. In fact I was on my way to LA three weeks back on hwy 402 and right at exit 56 I fell asleep and put the tractor into the ditch. So I decided then and there I will no longer truck, besides trucking has really become a drag.

I also know the area Cochrane and the Soo. I would choose the Soo over Cochrane. The Soo is just a nicer area and more land that is able to be farmed then in Cochrane. Mind you there was a big influx of Dutch I believe some 40 years back that did manage to do farming in Cochrane but mainly grass' and potatoes. Since the Soo is more south you would be able to grow a fair bit more.

Myself, I would prefer the mountains of British Columbia, around Nelson. But man land is expensive there. I would mind Haliburton area in Ontario. There is some land that was available near South River which is about an hour south of North Bay, check it out the web site is www.brianeast.com What is very appealing about this piece is the price but the real deal maker is that its got a very good river flowing through it and enough flow that you could build a micro turbine and have hydro

What are you trying to do to us? ;) Those pictures and descriptions just about gave me heart palpitations...what a gorgeous property!! And a private lake to boot...wow. Almost $400k is a lot of money but it does seem like a steal for so much pristine land.
