Oldies, but New here

Hello, looking forward to sharing and learning. I'm 64, we've been doing this a long time. Started in 1971. We wanted something better than chasing the Dollar. We have always done everything together. Didn't plan it that way, we just enjoy being together everyday. We live 10 miles past cable and dsl in Eastern Oklahoma by the Big Lake. Our satellite broadband does OK. It kept us in touch with our Son in Afghanistan. He came back a few weeks ago. It will take time to readjust.
The swelling hasn't gone down yet from the last time I told someone how old my wife is, so we'll just skip that part. ;D We don't want much. Just live long enough to see our Great Grandchildren grow old. :)

Y thank you ms-woman and our 6 Grand Daughters throw you kisses. I have an uncle that lives near Meridian, has about 20 acres there. :)

Well were not to far from Tishomingo county here in Miss. How old are your grand daughters, I have a 10 yr girl and a 3 yr boy, Ali and Archer. My husband and I have been living on the farm for 3yrs, and we love it! I teach an abstinence class part-time and hubby works the farm. We're small just 10 acres, a milk cow, chickens, guineas, some beef cows, 1 mule and a pair of belgians. And lots of gardens! I'm 28 and hubby is 26. But everything is paid for! What about ya'll, what do y ou do?

ms-woman, Our granddaughters are 16,11,9,8 and the twins are 6. Last years we took 4 of them to the Smokey Mnts. for vacation. All went very well. They were great. At one Rest Area in Tennessee, as Grandma and the girls were marching to the rest room, an Elderly Lady said to my wife " Oh bless you honey bless you!" I started laughing quite hard. I still do when I think about it.
We have had Horses, Ponies, Beef Cattle, Hogs, Goats, Chickens, Ducks, Turkeys, Geese and Guinaes. But now we just have our garden and some Chickens. Lately we've been considering more livestock and a much larger Garden because of the economy and that one of our older Sons (we have 4 Sons) has decided he wants to build a house and live here. We've been looking at a matched team of Belgians up in Kansas, Amish broke. I really enjoy twisting stumps out if the ground with a Team. I sure would like to do that again. But they need to be slow like me now. My wife and I used to do our own butchering, LOL, we used to do a lot of things that we don't do now. Youth gives a little more zip in your step.

Sounds like you have a really good sense of humor. Especially since you're swimming in the sea of estrogen! 6 grand-daughters! Wow, you do need another guy around!

We have stocked up, we have three gardens, and we grow our own animal feed and such... I just have this feeling that something will happen I don't know if it will be a depression, an attack or what I'm just trying my best to be prepared. I think if you have the land and the ability to feed a pair of belgians I'd snap them up, especially since they are Amish broke. Just think what all they are good for. Do you have any horse drawn equipment? Use them in the garden,hauling, pulling a wagon. Plus they are just beautiful horses. Well Mike I've got to get off here, I just jumped on real quick to write back to you, didn't want you to think I was ignoring you, I have enjoyed talking to you! I'd like to hear more about the grandkids and I need to figure out how to post some pics. Anyway I'm headed back to bed! Bedrest for a week, say a prayer that I don't have to have another surgery!

I wrote that very same check in 1960 for six years in the Navy Reserve during my senior year of highschool. Fortunately, no one cashed in.
I live on a small lot in Wrightwood, CA. The only things I grow here are LAZIER AND OLDER. Yaaawn, I'm gonna take a nap. ::)

We have several hens that hatched off a whole flock of baby chicks. I think I may have to put up traffic lights to keep them from running into each other. We spent the morning cutting the grass 2 acres of yard and of course flowers everywhere. We try not to hit the Chickens with flying sticks and pebbles since they free range. All this land and they hang around the yard most of the time. You know they're spoiled when an old hen comes right up to you and squawks at you until you give her some scracth feed. Yep did it to my wife yesterday. LOL There's a Hawk that keeps reducing the Chicken population though.

don;t like hawks... get a crow call. Crows are known to Hate Hawks. you can't shoot a hawl leagaly...but you can hire crows to do it.

Our chickens are free-range too, they come to the front door every morning and peck until you go outside and throw them some corn :) I got out of the bed today, I''m about to go stir crazy, went to the garden and picked purple hulls, weeded the strawberries and the onions hubby was chasing after me like an old wet hen ;D Dr ordered bed rest I had surgery on the 20th and if it doesn't do the job I'll have to go in and have a hysterectomy. But I felt great today, much to restless to lay around. I'm not in any pain and its always better to be up and about! I may have overdone it a bit with the weeding, I've laid up for almost 2 weeks and I think I pulled a muscle in my leg. Go to hear from you, are your girls doing anything special tomorrow? My oldest went to stay with my dad for the weekend! She loves her
