my name is Dorie, and it's so nice to be here. my hubby and I live on 2 acres in the woods of rural PA. we lived the suburban life, raising our 2 children, bought this little place for fun. 15 years later we happily moved here for the peaceful rural life we love. we could never go back to any type of city life. I love to garden, but am now doing it more seriously. also love living debt-free and frugal. :) I happen to google homesteading one day, and I felt like I found 'home'. not that we've any experience in real homesteading, but it's so good to find people that think the same. I'm here to learn all I can to be more self-sufficient. I joined another forum, but found alot of folks not all that friendly....guess sometimes it's frustrating to have the newbies ask questions that old-timers are tired of hearing. lol sometimes it's difficult to blend in with a tight group, too. growing up poor, my mom canned and such as necessity. sure am grateful for that experience! also my depression era grandmother passed on her knowledge for frugal living, and having her recipes for meal stretchers is now a blessing. anyway, we got tired of watching people strive for so many material objects instead of truly enjoying life. I feel so free, and I hope to gain insight for even more freedom. I don't work anymore, so besides my hubby my 2 dogs are my constant companions. ok...I'm a little dull....LOL! :) after lurking a little while, it felt like this was a friendly place.

I think there are alot of people out there who will be re-thinking thier way of life and reaching out to "those" people, you know the ones who raise their own food and don't have to go to the store everyday. As a newbie to the site I hope to learn all I can and pass it on to the grandkids. Country life may seem boring for some but it is a different way of life, there seems to be something always going on, yet it's not as stressful as some life-styles. Enjoy the Day!

Great! Welcome! You'll find this place friendly and informative. I haven't gotten yelled at for my stupid questions so far :)

I'm new here too! But I feel like I'm in the right place. I've never found so many people together that think like I do! My whole family thinks I'm nuts. My dad grew up farming and can't imagine why I would want to live like this. He told me "I've spent my whole life getting away from it and now you are going back" Short and sweet I love it!

I'm laid up this week from surgery but mom (kerryms) made plum jelly this morning. Makes the house smell so good! I can't imagine a better way to raise my kids and now with the economy like it is maybe they will have the knowledge to take care of themselves as they get older. I ramble a lot! Welcome
