I'm a subscriber to BHM and have been reading post for sometime now. I decided it was time to register so that I could post questions and comments from time to time. My wife and I and our two daughters homestead in KY. We love all things pertaining to homesteading (OK, all most all things). We are die hard organic gardeners and love raising animals. Hope to get some bees soon and we're planning on building a house (hopefully off grid) this year. Anyway, good to be here.

Hi Homesteadingnky!
I'm also in KY and fevorously into living natural.
We thought about getting into bees, but, am right now looking into getting a milk cow.
I sell my eggs in Henderson Co at Earth Magic, and am getting the organic price for them, which is nice.
My organic produce didnt go over as well as I had hoped but maybe year by year it will get better.
This year I'm growing my own spinach seed!
I am excited about heirloom veggies as well as organic.
Heirloom/organic veggies and the small farmers will have a come back I hope.
I hope people in communities will support their small farmers.
Or when "shtf" they'll have to! LOL!
Welcome!

Hi Firestarter,
What kind of dairy cow are you looking at getting? Have you considered a miniture Jersey? We have kicked around that idea. I grew up on a big dairy farm so milking is still in my blood though it's been 20 yrs since I last milked. We were buying our milk from a Mennonite friend but it got to where cleanliness was an issue.
Chickens are next on my list. I use to raise them but it's been a while. I've been trying to wait until we sell our house and move but I'm getting a little impatient. We have considered a CSA but again we need to get moved first. Meantime, we are gardening away. We love heirlooms too. Can't wait to get started this year!!
