Hello,

I didn't realize there was a forum with this page. Nice to know.

My husband and I are fans of Backwoods Home. We don' t own our own place yet, but hope to one day.

We live in Montana. Have 9 kids between us *I have five from a previous marriage, he has three, we had one together who died last year, and another on the way. My better half retired from the military last August and I just got my two week notice from my legal secretary job. Sigh. We've been picking up a lot of pieces lately. *
:-/

But this is also the time of year we drool over seed catalogs and make plans for planting and digging in the earth. I won't be able to accomplish as much as I would like to this summer (I'm due the end of August) but I look forward to visiting with others who can appreciate the value of simple living.

Hi :-)
It's wonderful to know how many like-minded people there are "out there".
I'm terribly sorry to hear about your little one. I'm also sorry that you're sad about losing your job. Perhaps it's actually a door opening rather than a door closing.
Seed catalog drool....it's the best LOL.
I wanted to do some serious planting this spring but am overwhelmed by the logistics of it all. There are so many unknowns in my life right now that I'm kind of stymied.
I saw in a different post of yours that you are considering milk goats. That's very exciting! And a new baby on the way....even MORE exciting!
You sound very blessed.

It's not so much as losing the job as much as it is being uncerimonously "dumped" I'm basically still employed there for two weeks (my last day is Valentine's Day, my favorite holiday) but I really think my boss thinks he's doing me a big favor by offering that.....or he's covering his hiney. Either way...no fun.

I'd like goats, yes, one day. I'd really like to experiment with making cheese from goat's milk. We live in town now, where we can't have small animals, but one day we'll be back out in the country again.

Have you tried planting in pots? Even just a few things you could take with you if you're going to move. A small window sill herb garden maybe? Or edible flowers?

I love seeds. They really are my downfall. I resist the urge to get packs and packs and dream all day of spring when I can plant.
