Hi everybody. I'm a 36 year old husband, father and, for the moment, U.S. Soldier in Iraq. We own remote property in northwestern Arizona (Aquarius Mountains), and intend to start living there toward the end of this year. I do electrical work when not "deployed".

Well, hello again, everybody, and thank you for the warm welcome. Nancy, I'm not a great John Wayne fan, but Wayne is my middle name, so I have fun with it. As for being an expert on our affairs in Iraq: an expert at hauling stuff as a member of an Army Transportation Battalion, yes...but by no means an expert on what's really happening here, in a larger sense. Opinions, maybe, but I tend to keep it simple and just "drive on" until my time is done here. (with thoughts of home...)

Hi from another newbie John. Only visited Arizona briefly, but that's some beautiful country. Curious, what do you do for water out there? Is it just a matter of digging deep enough? Snow melt/runoff? Here in Michigan you're never more than a mile from a lake, and all the fresh/clean water you want is usually no more than 100' down. Thanks for volunteering to serve your country.

Good question, Al, and definitely one to ask whenever looking into purchasing what seems to be affordable land in Arizona. In the area where I purchased a parcel, we are in a reliable aquifer that feeds the Big Sandy river. I was told that because we are upstream of some very reliable and plentiful wells (ranches, mining), that we should have good luck. The neighboring parcels have had success at drill depths of 75-275 feet. We don't have a well yet, but getting a good one up there is just a matter of having enought to pay the driller. (probably anywhere from $6000-$8000 for a cased hole)
