I'm really not into conspiracy theories to much but have you ever wondered if War might be a type of population control.

Another form of genocide.

insomuch as it eliminates population members, sure - but it's not NEARLY as effective as legalized abortion - or, for that matter, any of the other murderous activites of the liberals, socialists or communists - genuine military warfare pales in comparison -

In a backhand way I think you're on to something here. ALL wars are
fought over resources at some point in the war so that is natures way
to contol the population.
Just look at the ants when they go to war.....
it's all about territory and food resources to
expand the colony.

do you think we might expect the libs to introduce some hate-crime laws regarding ant behavior ?

Many science-fiction authors use war/population control as a theme in their stories. *Michael Gear, and Larry Niven immediately come to mind.
Here is another idea that I'd like to ask if it has been investigated in a through manner. *In general the level of infrastructure damage (burnt buildings, distroyed roads, burnt crops, ect) far excedes the numerical number of people actually killed in war. *Lets call the infrastructure the "carrying capacity" of the land. *
One one side, you can assume that war survivors are better off because there will be more resources available to each individual. *On the other hand, war will greatly reduce the total number of resources availble (less food, housing, ect) resulting in each individual getting less.
In the case of total war (such as WWII) the result would be more purely negative. However, in genocide, if a lot of infrastructure is not distroyed, then the survivors might positively benefit. *Derad Diamond proposes that this happened in Rwanda after the 1994 genocide. *The health and standard of living of the survivors is greater after the genocide, than before.
As repugnent as these ideas are, they are a real factor in the lives and well-being of human populations. *When people get desperate enough they'll be willing to hack their neighbors to death in the street to benefit their own children! *Something to think about after we run out of oil.

basic human instincts - both the glorious ones and the viscious ones - will be with us regardless of population numbers - the measure of our civilized status will be shown by how such matters are handled -

The world now increases by about 70 million people each and every year.
Only about 50 million were killed in WWII and that was over a period of about a decade.
Since the 1950's, though, it has been possible that hundreds of millions might be killed in just a few hours and many of those who survived might wish they had not.
The certain big killer rapidly approaching this grossly-overpopulated world is famine.

I was once told, that every time there has been a generation where the boys vastly outnumbered the girls, there was a major conflict. Seeing as how we are seeing an explosion in baby boys, it looks like the population is going to be thinned in20 years or so.
Peace,
Many despots and tyrannts advocated war as a means to stimulate economy and cull the herd so to speak, see Hitlers "my struggle" in a perveted way it makes abosulte sense, but it is still perverted and vile.
As for leaving the infrastuctures intact hail the invention of the neutron bomb.
As to to male / female populace influence, it isn't just for men anymore, ...
War is the abscence of all reason and the pinniacle of humanities failure.
