Hi folks, first day on the forum today :) I'm quite new to the whole site actually.
Ever since I was a kid I have only felt "at home" in the woods or the mountains, and to this day enjoy multi-day backpacking trips. Well, in a few short years, my wife and I will be getting out of the city and heading for a small town in the Rockies (around 7000'). This may or may not be permanent. We want to go "back to basics" with our food (for example, I've been reading a little about wheat and barley etc), and would like to try to start a small garden despite the harsh climate.
If all goes well, this may be a stepping stone to a true back-country existence. First, we want to master the cheaper , healthier diet and reach a certain proficiency level in growing a few fruits and vegetables.
If anyone has any advice on any of this, or if you can point me in the right direction, I'd certainly appreciate it!
