There are so many new people here in the past month or two, that I felt I should "reintroduce myself".

I am Leera,I am not new here by any means.
I live in southeastern Michigan at the moment.

Our plan in the next three years is to get our property(paying cash) and build as we can afford to(no mortgage for us).

Our home will be entirely solar/wind powered( we hope anyway)

Our desire(hubby and me) is to live as self sufficiently as we can,and raise/grow most or all of our own food organically.

We are currently working on paying off all our debts from our "Smith's and Jones" lifestyle attempt without filing for bankruptcy.

We are 14 months away from having ALL our credit card debt paid in full, and 24 months to having our car and mobile home paid in full.

After that we are going to spend a year adding to what savings we have, and hopefully be able to pay cash for the property we want.

We will most likely be buying raw land, and living in a camper while we get started on building the house.

It's nice to meet everyone, and see so many new faces added to the membership here.

Thanks for taking the time to read my rambling.

Leera..you don't ramble... :) and what a good idea.
Perhaps we all should do this.

Can we all just use this thread to reintroduce ourselves? I'm gonna go ahead....hope this isn't a highjack...if so sorry Leera :-/

I'm Donna, I currently live in Germany with my Air Force hubby and two kids, ages 7 and almost 9. We've been here over 6 years. We are moving back to the states (don't know where yet) in May. Hubby and I are originally from North Florida, the part where Florida, Georgia, and Alabama connect. We would like to settle somewhere in that area one day.

This year I had my first garden. Since I live in an apartment it had to be a container garden. I learned a lot. I started all my own seeds under lights in my kitchen. I can't wait to have a nice big, in the ground, garden next fall. I can already tell that gardening is going to be a life long thing for me. The folks here really held my hand through the whole experience and for that I am very grateful :-* I also put up food for the first time. Just a small batch of strawberry jelly but it was really good and gave me a little bit of practice with canning.

Like Leera, hubby and I at one time had accumulated a good little bit of debt trying to prove ourselves. But we've long since left that mentality behind and live much more sensibly now. When we leave in May we should be debt free (including the car) and have a nice little chunk in savings.....how far that chunk will go towards buying property will depend on where we're stationed.

Eventually I would like to have a small farm that would supply most of our food needs. I don't really see trying to make a living at it. When we do get land I want to start off with a large garden and some chickens. Assuming I manage those well I would then like to add a couple dairy goats.

I would love to try to go solar....but that will be a little at a time since hubby's not totally sold on the idea as of yet.

I guess that's it about me.

Leera, your situation and goals sound very similar to mine. I posted about myself a bit in the 'money' section of the forums. Feel free to come in and post about how you're going about getting your own homestead. I'd love to read about the details.

I'm fairly new here so---nice to meet you.
