First time on this forum and just wanted to say howdy. I just bought 20 acres in Wash. ST. above curlew, 1/2 mile from the Canadian border. My wife and I plan on living there full time in the near future, but want to get my ducks in a row first. we are not new to self reliant living but I have a ton of questions about solar etc. etc. This place seems like a good place to start- so howdy again and away we go. :D

Welcome, Flatwater. I just bought my ten acres. Feels great, doesn't it! I'll bet your countryside is really pretty up there.

We over look the kettle river as it turns west running through midland Canada. Elevation is about 3500 feet. So far we have seen one elk, two mountain sheep, two mountain goats, one bear ( 30 ft from the cabin ) and alot of muleys and a few white tail. soon we will call it home. How about yourself, where are you lacated at ( state wise )

I'm in Michigan - in the flat central area. No large vistas or mountains, but I'm within minutes of Lake Huron, and we have lots of creeks. My land has the foundations of a very old homestead on a small hill, then slopes away to a wetland and swamp on the east. I have Amish on two sides. Small hills roll away to the south, and I can see a beautiful stand of mature maples past the crops. There's more land available adjoining mine, but I just can't afford it. I'm praying either I get really good neighbors, or that it'll still be for sale in a couple of years, when maybe I could get it on land contract.
Do you ever hunt? Seems like an elk would keep you in meat for a good while. And a bear! You'll have to be real careful with the garbage and bird feed and such.

Yes indeedy I do hunt and got a nice 3 point muley the 3rd day of blackbowder season. I let the bear go because I was alone and it was later in the evening. I somewhat carfull about mentioning hunting because of the anti hunting sentiment thats out there. You know, save all the pretty animals etc. etc.
