Thank you for the welcome.

Bones, I never liked keeping it trimmed when I was in. That is one of the reasons I only did 20 years, 9 months versus 30 years. I don't believe I ever ran across him, I'm not really sure. And I also, was a Storekeeper, SKCM(SW).

Flatwater, In 1969 I was nine years old. I served in the Navy from 1978 to 1999. I'm 48 years old.

I spent time overseas: 3 years in Australia, 3 years in Naples, Italy, 3 years in Newfoundland, Canada, 1 year between Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Iraq during Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

I spent 5 years on a Nuclear Cruiser, USS MISSISSIPPI (CGN-40), 2 years on a Guided Missile Destroyer, USS MacDonough (DDG-39) and a year on a Fast Frigate, USS MILLER (FF-1091).

The remaining time was spent on shore duty in Newport, RI; Charleston, SC; and Norfolk, VA

SKCS Triplett went on terminal leave June 2008 from Navy Recruiting District Jacksonville FL. Official retired 30 Sept 2008. 20 years of service 38 years old. 22 Dec 2008 died of a heart attack. He was at a friends house when he had his attack. ambulance took 10 min to get there and nobody knew CPR. Thank God his SLGI was still in effect.

So many of those retiring do not take the Survivor Benefits Plan thinking they can do better with a private life insurance policy but never start it. I figured my age and how much money I would earn with my retirement for the next 30 years to see how much I would make and determined I would need almost a 1 million policy to carry my wife through if I died within a year of retiring. So it is worth the $155 a month to us to give her 55% of my retirement pay for the rest of her life with cost of living increases every year.

Welcome to retirement life and I hope you have filed your disability paperwork. If you have question please IM me if you wait to long your paperwork goes to the bottom of the stack. The VA will take care of claims for those being discharged first before looking at claims for those that have been out over a year. I had my rating 45 days after I retired.

Hi Master Chief. My older brother was a SKCS. He served on the USS Barbour County (LST 1195) and USS Sterret (CG-31). He was also stationed at the submarine base at Groton, CT. He got out of the regular Navy so he could be there to watch his young son learn to walk, talk, ect. He served in the reserves until he was diagnosed with cancer. Thank you for your service.
