Silverado - That is a Farmall Super-M

HS - That very rocky ground you see there with the tractor is actually part of the leveled area for the trailer and barn. Kind of our front/side yard. We have some growin' ground which is bottom land to the Gila River (Hee-Laa).

This is an old plantation house (on state & federal historic registar) in Laurens SC.

We still own it, although we rent it out to some members of the origonal owners, who had to sell it when their parents died as it was to be split between 6 kids.

A View from the road.

EDIT: forgot to mention the property abuts up to state forestry land which will NEVER be developed. Also it is about 1/2 mile behind the house you'll come to a river, one side is NC the other is SC. the NC side is the state forrestry land, we own all the way to the river, & the nearest neighbor is almost a mile to the right or left, & 1/2 mile to the front. the only bad thing, it's a wood house & the NEAREST fire dept is in NC, about 15 miles away from the plantation

My parents bought this farm in 1954, and i bought it from them around 1980... Here's a "winter pict." of my home...

http://www.fototime.com/01D6AB39638896C/standard.jpg

and this is a summer pict. of my shop, it's by a different pond than the house is,

http://www.fototime.com/32D16C002EB265B/standard.jpg

The whole back part of my shop is where i do all of my wood working, and i built a "second story" room over that part of the shop. It has a small apartment in it with a walk in shower ect... Some folks call it my "cabin", others, my "tree house"... One of my friends calls it "Trump Tower"... ha ha ha

http://www.fototime.com/B623620D9C04F51/standard.jpg

I'm still working up there, but so far i've added a nice deck to kick back on, on those warm summer evenings... It's a nice place to watch the moon rise from too... ;)

http://www.fototime.com/5AA2F1008DB4857/standard.jpg

I also added an "outside" sink with frost free faucets...

http://www.fototime.com/E423E47C103BBAC/standard.jpg

This is a pict. from "Trump Towers" ;D picture window...

and in deer season! :)

http://www.fototime.com/BBDE85668D5DF1C/standard.jpg

OK, that's enough of that...

Thanks to all of you that have posted picts here before me, you all have "great" looking places!!

Al,

That is a REALLY sharp and professional looking setup on the solar/inverter/battery bank configuration. If you wouldn't mind, could you go into some more detail about this setup with respect to the components and component sizing, rated output capacity, and what all was required to meet code?

Since you have posted this, how has the solar system performed? What if anything or components would you have done differently in hindsight.

Really nice looking place you built there! I wouldn't mind hearing a more detailed rundown on the passive solar home either.

New Member here thought I would post a photo of our piece of "the dream". I am not as "hardcore" as many on here are but I am getting there...in due time. We had about 4 acres clear cut for the home and food plot, and 40% of the rest thinned since it was in really bad shape when we bought it. It paid for some of the tractor and now we are cleaning the mess that both the loggers and builders made. In due time...

The land is rugged and rough below all those pine trees. Very little to garden on other than 2 acres, the rest would only be good for goats and a few horses. Neither of which interest me at this time.

I am new on here as well, but I thought I would show a picture taken from the top of the hill. Its not the view from my house but nice nonetheless. I am in hopes to have my daughter take over the house I live in now, and build retirement home from this very spot.

My little sailboat. S/V Libertarian. Some will say too small to live on, I say for one guy, some guns, a laptop, books and tools, it's just right. An Aquarius 23, built in the mid 1970's with a 5hp British Silver Seagull as auxiliary power.

I'm working on as much self contained living as possible. Libertarian is a work in progress and will be getting a new tiller handle and centerboard this week. One thing I like about the A-23's, aside from the huge amount of room inside, is the fact I can beach the boat if I want to.

Howdy!

The link below is to a web album that I have put up to document the process of building a cabin in the woods in SE Texas. I now live in the first part of the cabin, and this spring and summer will see some additions made. The place is a shared endeavor with a couple close friends from England who spend most of the year here, and with our four dogs. Enjoy!

http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o197/Boris859/stump.jpg
no timeline on most of it but the history goes this, the house started as a sawmill, then became a grain mill, sometime later it became a sugar shack, then just for storage, around 1910 or so,(i dated that by newspaper stapled to the walls) it was transformed into the house,in the 60's an addition was added, the inside needs alot of work, but I am learning to do most of that,it's a dry roof and 4 walls, and thats all I need anyhow, the rest will come as time and money allow.
edit,my pic technique could use some work, kinda blurry

Jay,
What a nice cabin you and your friends have built. I love looking at progress pictures of projects. Thank you for sharing.

Boris,

Thank you for sharing more pics of your homestead and the history of it. The pic with the snow in it blows my mind. Snow is unheard of way down here. I've often asked the questions, "What is snow?" ;D
We can only do what we can...time and money wise. There is no rush or deadlines in MY book when it comes to MY projects. I do as I can when I can and thats the way it should be. Your doing great. Thank you for sharing your pics with us. You have a pretty homestead.

Since I don't have any decent pics of the house, I thought I would post an aerial of my home place. You can see the two roads. One is on the east side and runs north and south and the other is on the south and runs east west. The house is about 3/8 mile from the road. You can see my lane runs back from the south road to the north to my little homestead.

To the east-northeast is the largest of 3 ponds. That is my fishin' hole. lol... it has bass, catfish and a couple others.... I don't know if it is the time of year that the water has turned or what but it sure looks dark brown.. lol

There's some good pasture but lots of timber as well. A lifetime of firewood.

There was nothing here when I moved up here.

Well, my journey with my family has begun. We have land in North Central Florida. There is very little done other than the initial bush hogging of the borders (boy that was an event thanks to my friend Poison Ivy!).

I will post periodic updates on our construction projects which will include a shed, a home, gardens plots and pastures, and utilities to start.

Here are some property pictures:

The road to our land (north border):
http://www.cxp.com/username/Picture 030.jpg

Looking towards the southwest where we plan to turn a low spot near our west border in to a pond:
http://www.cxp.com/username/Picture 012.jpg

Towards the center of our land:
http://www.cxp.com/username/Picture 009.jpg

Looking north from the center:
http://www.cxp.com/username/Picture 016.jpg

As you can see there will be lots of work ahead of us. First priority is to install a well so we can start preparing future pasture and garden plots.
