Well it will be a matter of weeks and our house will be losing 2. My 22 year old stepdaughter signs papers today to buy her house and she is letting her brother come live with her. We're damn proud of someone her age making that leap instead of renting another overpriced apartment. With the way things have been, she was able to talk the owner down 5k and get herself a 6% interest rate. Wish I was that smart when I was 22!!
The best part is that our bills will fall through the floor now. ;D Our electric bill will more than likely be cut in half or less with the loss of 2 tv's, cable boxes, dvd players, stereos and game systems.........woooooooohoooooooo!
She was paying the cable bill herself since her and her brother just HAD to have digital with the dvr and all the premium channels....so the mrs and I had a good long talk and decided to not put it back in our name. So as of the day she moves out, no cable tv here, just dvd's and maybe an antenna in the future. We rarely watch it anyways.
Of course its gonna be rough watching them leave, and of course I'll be moving all the heavy stuff, but I'll be singing with each electronic gadget I carry out..... ;D
I think about the $ we';; save on food, but we timed it and they're 8 minutes away....they'll be here for dinner a few times a week I'm sure lol.

Your daughter is very smart! It's so hard to get started now a days for sure!
I bought my first house at 19. A two bedroom house in Corvallis Oregon for 18,000. Hate to think what it's worth today. It was the same price as renting at the time.
No going home for dinner though - with family about 3000 miles away!

When they knock on the door, put on your hungry-face and say that Mom no longer cooks and that you have to take her out to eat every night, at progressively cheaper establishments as money is very tight. Make a Congrats On Your New Home card from a paper grocery bag with a hand-written message. Something like... "Money's tight. Times are hard. Here's your dumb ol' Housewarming card." 8)
Oh. NO! Wait. That might backfire. They may feel that you depended on them and decide to move back in to help you. Maybe you can tell them that the electricity was cut off and that you and Mom like it that way?
Oh man, Dawg. You've got some creative thinking to do. I'll soon be in the same boat. Let me know how things go for you. :)

haha Ozark....
Actually, a small part of their reason for leaving is the way we are living here now...it seems that meat rabbits were the last straw, lol. So telling them the electric was off wouldnt surprise them at all. They're goth still in total shock that we arent getting the cable turned back on.
Of course, handy dandy stepdad now has the job of finding her something to mow with too. She won't need much for that giant 1/16 acre lot, so I think finding her a good used mower should be easy. She asked for my dads old 110 series Deere hahaha he bought that in 69 and I still run it, she's outta her mind. Silly kids ::) I should give her one of the reel mowers I'm working on.
I'm just glad she's playing it smart and not going overboard on buying things for her new house. She grabbed her mom yesterday and drove to every goodwill and thrit shop around to look for dishes and things she'll need.

Dawgus, your daughter leaving home can be bitter sweet. I went from being married for 28 yrs. to being a single dad and then an empty nester single dad. That first week she was gone I couldn't believe how nice and quite things where around here. For some reason, I all the sudden had a few dollars in my wallet. ;D But I've got to say, even tho I am so proud of her as you are of your daughter, I do miss having her around from time to time. And oh yea, you will see them at dinner time on occasion I'm sure. Don't be surprised if you recieve a few phone calls every month with your daughters need for a few bucks. It just so happens mine called last night and wanted to know if I could buy her some gas because she didn't get paid until Monday. Told here, sure, come by and pick me up and we will go fill her tank. When I got in her car, I noticed her gas gauge said 0 miles until empty. She drove from her house to work, over to my house, and then the gas station with the gauge saying this. We had to be running on fumes. ;D She does not take advantage of asking for money or gas but she knows I will always be there if needed. Enjoy the ranks of the empty nesters!

Well today is the last day for the kids here at home, tomorrow is the big move! Boxes are all marked and ready and in the shed so it's easier to load. All that's left to get is furniture and her $#@ giant flatscreen tv. Of course it's been raining since yesterday morning with no signs of stopping till Monday or so, but at least her move this time isn't in the winter like last time when she came home to finish school lol.
We went through the pantries and set her up with a good start of food supplies, as well as dishes and kitchen gadgets. Mrs is making her curtains today, and I'm gathering tools to block off a few crawlspaces in the new house for her cats. All in all it's going to go smooth, though I know Mrs is going to be a blubbering mess when we make that last trip tomorrow and the kids don't come home.
Sure I'll miss 'em, but that spare bedroom in the basement is already looking good to be full of all my fishing and hunting gear that's been banished to the garage for 2 years. Reloading bench there......cleaning station there.....rods over here....camping gear in that closet......nawwwwwww I havent given it much thought. hahaha
