Anybody own one of the braces shown on page 60 of the spring catalog? I'd like to get another one to "tuck away" and they make it sound good, but for the money I can buy a couple locally. If they're as well made as they say they are I'd fork over the money.

The quality is good but flea markets and even the antique shops in my area are full of braces, bits, drawknifes etc for less money.
I grew up just down the road from Lehmans hardware before they became a tourist trap.

Have to agree with indyguy. I have gotten most of my woodshop tools and equipment at yard sales, antique shops, second hand stores and flea markets. And the quality of the older tools are a wonderful thing. Rick

Look around the flea markets. There are some deals to be found on old wood working tools. Some time with a wire brush or wheel, a little file work and maybe a new handle if needed.
I do some timber framing and blacksmithing all with tools were found at the flea market.

Thanks indy. I've got a couple older braces, but like I said, they make 'em sound like they would last a hundred years. Course they can make anything sound good in print, or look good on tv. I just figured if they were that good, I'd put another one up for an emergency.

You can get them at flea markets for less than $20 (unless your flea market guy all of a sudden decides he's selling antiques). Look for one that ratchets.
The brace also makes a fine cordless screwdriver.
